Crowell & Moring LLP, a global Am Law 100 law firm, seeks a highly qualified associate with experience in export controls to join our Washington, D.C. office. We advise clients on the full range of laws governing exports and re-exports of goods, technology, software, and services. Our clients include a variety of large and small companies such as high-tech companies in the semiconductor, software, and software encryption industries, manufacturers in the aerospace and defense industry, producers and distributors of specialty chemicals, and providers of financial services and insurance.

Candidates must have 3 to 4 years of experience counseling clients regarding U.S. export controls and economic sanctions issues, with a particular emphasis on the International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the Export Administration Regulation.

The ideal candidate will have some experience in one or more of the following areas:

•             performing jurisdiction and classification analysis,

•             drafting license applications and Commodity Jurisdiction requests,

•             developing international trade compliance programs,

•             performing M&A trade due diligence

•             representing clients with respect to voluntary self-disclosures, internal and government investigations.

Prior work experience including national security reviews by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the U.S. (CFIUS), and mitigation of foreign ownership, control, or influence (FOCI mitigation) for cleared U.S. contractors, is a plus.

All candidates should have excellent academic credentials as well as highly developed organization, writing and analytical skills. Candidates must be a member of the D.C. Bar or eligible to waive in.
