Job Description
The Packaging Design Engineer is responsible for the structural design and technical development of packaging for Cricut products. This role leads the design, engineering, and validation of packaging solutions that protect products during transportation, enable efficient manufacturing and assembly, and support retail and customer experience requirements.
Working closely with program management, product engineering, operations, and suppliers, the Packaging Design Engineer develops packaging structures, die lines, packaging documentation, and validation testing necessary to support new product launches.
Key Responsibilities
Packaging Structural Design
- Design structural packaging solutions for new product launches including retail packaging, internal protective packaging, and display machine packaging.
- Develop packaging structures that meet product protection, manufacturing efficiency, and cost requirements.
- Create and maintain packaging die lines and structural design documentation.
Engineering Documentation
- Produce detailed packaging visual assembly documentation for contract manufacturers.
- Provide bundle weights and dimensional specifications for all product configurations.
- Document waste packaging attributes and material composition.
Product Packaging Development
- Work with the Packaging Program Manager to execute packaging deliverables aligned with NPI schedules.
- Develop packaging structures for bundle configurations and SKU variations.
- Support packaging needs for display machines and retail programs.
Supplier Collaboration
- Collaborate with packaging vendors to develop prototypes and validate manufacturability.
- Support sourcing teams with technical inputs during vendor selection and cost evaluation.
Testing & Validation
- Support transportation and packaging validation testing in collaboration with Quality teams.
- Ensure packaging meets shipping durability and regulatory requirements.
PLM Documentation
- Upload packaging specifications, files, and waste packaging details into Arena PLM.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation for packaging designs and revisions.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in packaging structural design for consumer products.
- Experience developing packaging die lines and structural packaging components.
- Experience working with packaging suppliers and manufacturing partners.
- Proficiency with CAD tools used for packaging design.
Preferred
- Experience with retail packaging and display packaging.
- Familiarity with packaging validation and transportation testing standards (ISTA or similar).
- Experience supporting packaging development within NPI programs.
