Job Description
The Manager of Hardware Test Engineering is responsible for ensuring our products are designed for quality. As early as the concept phase of the product, you will develop a risk assessment utilizing the NUDD process (New, Unique, Different, Difficult). This risk assessment will be comprehensive of lessons learned on previous products, along with technological, manufacturing and operational risks to the current design. You will be responsible for identifying these risks and working with the appropriate product development functions to ensure the critical and high-risk items are prevented prior to validating the final design.
The Manager of Hardware Test Engineering will also own quality in the sustaining phase of the product. The successful candidate will establish quality goals and monitor performance, investigate the full suite of failure analysis leading to root cause determination and subsequent closed loop corrective action. Leads quality lesson’s learned and institutes remedies to prevent reoccurrence of quality issues and possess a high sense of urgency when managing critical issues.
In Manager will drive continuous improvement in all aspects of the job, be able to deal with ambiguity, and influence at all levels of the company.
In this role, you will:
- Understand the technology and functionality of consumer electronic products.
- Identify potential negative risk to the customer experience and implement preventative measures during development to improve processes.
- Be an expert in advanced quality methods and protocol.
- Lead cross-functional teams in Design for Quality initiatives.
- Utilize your comprehensive knowledge of standards, related disciplines, company strategy and goals to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Deliver solutions to complex problems through in-depth data analysis and forensics by using methodical approaches, innovation and judgment to make decisions that may be based on partial information.
- Understand detailed implications of decisions and recommendations and communicate recommended solutions to the product development team and executive leadership.
- Align cross-functionally, influencing a broad spectrum of stakeholders to deliver on the quality policy.
- Participates in the ECR and ECO (Engineering change requests and orders) process to ensure product quality and customer satisfaction.
- Make decisions using Acceptance Criteria and Product Specifications regarding quality of the products.
- Lead the process of customer interactions on all Quality related issues including containment, root cause, corrective and preventative action.
- Collaborate with Manufacturing Test Engineers to validate manufacturing lines and lead continuous improvement initiatives such as process and gage capability studies on test stations resulting in improved yields throughout manufacturing process
- Recommend product’s readiness at EVT, DVT, MPQ and MP gate exits.
Product Safety & Regulatory requirements
- Maintains an understanding of all certifying agency standards that are applicable to the company’s products.
- Coordinate and receive external agency inspection audits.
- Ensure any applicable standards requirements are accurately reflected in product designs.
Qualifications
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing or equivalent required.
- 10+ years of hands-on technical work experience in an engineering and/or product design validation quality role and high-volume manufacturing.
- Knowledgeable in production control processes, data analysis/interpretation GR&R, Cp/Cpk and correlation analysis.
- Experience with any of the following: mechanical parts, castings, plastic parts, injection molding, tooling, jigs, fixtures, or automotive high-volume quality manufacturing engineering.
- Project management and people management highly preferred.
- Expertise in driving to root-cause through failure analysis (FA) through Eight Disciplines (8D), design of experiments (DOE), etc. to drive corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) through all stages of the product lifecycle
- Working knowledge of FCC/CE/UL compliance testing and documentation are preferred.
