Maintenance Tech II

Base Pay: $32.00 - $35.00 per hour

2nd Shift:  3:45 PM - 12:15 PM  Mon - Fri

Position Summary
The Extrusion Maintenance Technician Level II is responsible for performing intermediate-level maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of extrusion equipment and supporting systems. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production goals through proactive and corrective maintenance activities.


Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repair
•    Perform preventive and predictive maintenance on extrusion lines and auxiliary equipment.
•    Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
•    Diagnose equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
•    Replace and align components such as screws, barrels, gearboxes, heaters, motors, and sensors.
•    Assist with die changes, calibrations, and setup support.

Troubleshooting
•    Identify root causes of equipment failures and recurring issues.
•    Read and interpret electrical schematics and mechanical drawings.
•    Perform basic PLC diagnostics including input/output checks.

Continuous Improvement
•    Participate in root cause analysis and reliability improvement initiatives.
•    Recommend improvements to increase uptime and efficiency.
•    Support 5S and TPM initiatives.

Safety & Compliance
•    Follow all safety procedures including LOTO.
•    Ensure repairs meet OSHA and company standards.
•    Maintain clean and organized work areas.

Documentation
•    Document maintenance work and downtime in CMMS.
•    Communicate shift status to team members.

Support & Collaboration
•    Work with production, supervisors, and engineering.
•    Provide support during startups and shutdowns.
•    Train Level I technicians on basic maintenance tasks.

Qualifications

Education & Experience
•    High school diploma or GED required; technical certification preferred.
•    3–5 years of industrial maintenance experience, preferably in extrusion.

Technical Skills
•    Knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, pneumatics, and hydraulics.
•    Basic PLC troubleshooting experience.
•    Ability to use diagnostic and precision tools.

Preferred Experience
•    Extrusion equipment including screws, dies, and downstream equipment.
•    Heating/cooling systems and tooling maintenance.

Competencies
•    Strong problem-solving skills.
•    Ability to work independently.
•    Good communication and teamwork.
•    Attention to detail and time management.

Physical Requirements
•    Lift up to 50 lbs.
•    Stand, walk, bend, and climb.
•    Work in heat, noise, and industrial conditions.

Work Environment
•    Manufacturing plant setting.
•    May require overtime and shift work.

Level II Differentiation
•    Independently troubleshoot most issues.
•    Handle moderately complex repairs without supervision.
•    Mentor junior technicians.
•    Participate in improvement initiatives.
