Job Description

Kōrero mō te tūranga - About the role

We're looking for a Senior Data Scientist to join Contact's Generation and Trading digital team as we begin our transformation journey and use data and analytics to drive critical decisions and empower our people to do what they do best. You have a passion for statistical modelling, machine learning and communication and you’ll be part of a strategically vital team helping to decarbonize the New Zealand energy industry. Here’s a snapshot of the things you’ll get involved with;

  • You will build and manage the data science function to grow and embed the use of advanced analytics as part of the new Digital Generation and Trading team
  • Proactively turn raw data into purified actionable insights to adopt and embed across the business to improve decision making and operational management
  • Provide technical support and guidance for other data squads and users across the business
  • Be a leader in the team ensuring our data platform standards and practices are followed and recommend improvements

There are so many skillsets, personality and motivators we’d like to see in your application however at the core of we’re seeking is your ability to be unfazed by a fast-changing complex environment and have a passion for continuous improvement and delivering the right solution for our business. Moreover, your strong and proven collaborative interpersonal skills will see you engage with technical and non-technical people to take them on a journey with your findings. And finally, your advanced statistical and predictive modelling know-how by using a variety of techniques including ML and AI to build, maintain and improve on real-time systems.

Additional Information

If you have skills in the following would be really helpful;

  • Postgraduate degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, mathematics, or related fields
  • Experience with big data in complex environments
  • Broad knowledge of an AI / machine learning domain
  • Understanding of DevOps and how it applies to data science
  • Technical analysis and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve data and platform issues
  • Familiarity with Linux, Amazon Web Services, high-performance computing; or similar experience in running operational systems
  • Advanced skills in programming (SQL, Python or R)
  • The ability to coach, mentor and support the team through experience and technical knowledge
