Job Description
The riding community relies on their local J&P Cycles stores and mobile showrooms to carry the right merchandise, at the right price, at the right time, in the right quantity with the right presentation. All of those factors work in harmony to influence a shoppers experience and ultimately contribute to the success of the merchandising team's goals of achieving sales, gross margin, inventory turn, and exclusive brand penetration numbers for the current and projected fiscal years.
Key to this team's success will be the addition of our Stores and Events Product Category Merchant, someone who is an analytical thinker, someone who will dig into the numbers and is comfortable with complex data sets. You will work closely with the Sr. Product Category Manager, Product Category Merchants and sourcing department to drive sales through strategic decision making around product assortment and ensuring proper inventory levels for New Store Openings, Yearly Assortments and Comoto level National and Regional Events to hit J&P Cycles’ planned profitability.

Our Next Stores and Events Product Category Merchant Will:
Sweat Pricing and Sales Goals: As the Stores and Events Product Category Merchant you will build relationships with your peers and our vendors, - in turn, you will have ownership of product offerings and inventory levels for both Exclusive Brands and 3rd party products.
Manage Inventory Ordering: Places weekly and event stocking orders in JDE and Direct Commerce using solid computer and analytical skills for objective-based decisions.
Have Eyes Like A Hawk: You are the kind of person who notices everything and will facilitate both product selection and inventory level goals by analyzing store and event layouts and optimizing the available space to hit the respective plan. You will achieve inventory goals by carefully monitoring vendor and DC stock availability, working with Product Category Merchants and the sourcing department to select the right merchandise, at the right price, at the right time, in the right quantity to ensure successful annual retail sales.
Have Their Finger On The Pulse: you will be aware of (and consistently track) industry trends, reacting quickly to new trends and products to ensure that J&P Cycles Stores and Comoto Events stock what they need to be successful. You will also analyze seasonal differences and make sure to take advantage of those seasonal opportunities to increase sales. You will travel to store locations throughout the year to analyze merchandising assortments and to work closely with the store staff to best understand customer trends in each location.
Qualifications
Our Stores and Events Product Category Merchant Has:
5+ years of relevant business related work experience
Strong knowledge of both the V-Twin Hard Parts and Gear of the Motorcycle Industry as a whole
Experience with analyzing sales data to make granular decisions about assortments and inventory levels
Knowledge of Retail Math including, but not limited to margins, inventory turns, budgets, and sales forecasting
High degree of proficiency MS Office Suite, specifically Excel, Access
Experience with Specialty Retail and Mass Channels preferred
Developed and used collaborative relationships and information to facilitate the accomplishment of work goals
A track record of results, setting strategy, and managing a large volume and high profile business
Inspired creativity by leveraging experience and out-of-the-box thinking to achieve brand and financial objectives for the assigned divisions of merchandise
Experience in inventory management, and product selection
A high threshold for working in an ambiguous, fast paced environment – figuring things out and adapting as you go
The ability to operate simultaneously and effectively in both tactical and strategic modes
A scrappy mindset and a willingness to roll up sleeves to get the job done along with a “Can do” attitude with work ethic based on strong desire to exceed expectations
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the team member is regularly required to sit while utilizing a computer for extended periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The team member frequently is required to walk and occasionally required to stand. The team member must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
