Job Description
Working within the Environmental Team to strengthen the existing flood risk and drainage offering and responsible for strategic growth of the business. You will have a proven track record of building a team and the systems required to support the teams delivery.
Providing technical leadership across the flood risk and sustainable drainage team you would be responsible for strategic growth of the team, ensuring recruitment, report output, mentoring junior staff, answering technical queries, review and sign off of key reports, business development and overseeing proposals.
As the ‘Go To’ person within the Environmental team and wider business, to provide guidance and advice on flooding and drainage proposal and project related matters, you will take an active role and responsibility for scheduling and delivery of flooding and drainage works in the Environmental cost centre per week / month.
You will seek out new clients and nurture existing business relationships, to develop the team’s consultancy skills and to expand knowledge with the aim of providing follow on and additional services to key clients.
Importantly you will have the opportunity to develop your own team and career in our growing, dynamic, consultancy environment, with the help of Directors and trusted associates who would be assigned mentoring responsibilities to support you and your team.
Responsibilities and duties:
Management and technical leadership
- Setting realistic report delivery schedule to meet targets each week and over the month for the flooding and drainage works in the Environmental cost centre, plus establish effective data chasing to ensure reports can be delivered. Where reports are delayed you will ensure clients, and the sales team, are kept informed.
- Identify where support is required from Associates to deliver targets.
- Management of sub-contractors required to deliver flood and drainage reports, ensuring appropriately qualified and safe along with making sure accounts systems and any contracts are in line before appointment.
- Provide training and CPD both internally and externally, where required to build the business brand.
Technical Delivery
- Support projects that deliver high quality, pragmatic, advice and solutions to environmental problems.
- Provide technical review and quality assurance for our interpretative reports on flood risk and sustainable drainage, responsible for the review of reports written by junior staff.
- Provide technical development, and training for junior members of the team.
- Undertaking external consultations with regulatory bodies (such as local authorities) and represent the company as technical lead on flood risk assessment and sustainable drainage.
- Provide support and input to our R&D program through innovative product development.
Business Development
- Technical and business development of key client accounts, acting as the technical point of contact, understanding client requirements, and directing the team to deliver these.
- Taking an active role in securing work as part of the Environmental team, developing relationships with key clients and preparing non-standard proposals / presenting to win work.
- Progress a chartership application and continue to support/mentor junior staff in their own career progression.
Qualifications
- An appropriate earth or geoscience or geography based degree.
- Working to or already gained Chartership through CIWEM.
- Proven understanding required time inputs and delivery on budget.
- Building a team and the systems required to deliver the team’s work.
- Strong communicator.
- Excellent technical skills and industry knowledge.
- Enthusiastic, with a strong team player attitude.
- Holds a current UK driving licence and be prepared to drive for business purposes on occasion.
