Job Description
We are seeking a Network Engineer for a contract-to-hire role. This role can work remotely from anywhere within the U.S. Due to the nature of the projects being supported, this role will require the selected candidate to be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
In this role, you will provide network device maintenance and implementation to a service provider backbone and customer aggregation network. This role will serve as an escalation point for network issues, as well as provisioning customer services.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Handle escalated trouble calls.
- Work closely with the NOC, deployment engineers, and carriers to resolve network issues.
- Work with systems engineering to automate as many networks provisioning and turn up tasks as possible.
- Perform installation and integration of backbone equipment in network.
- Provide detailed equipment installation specifications and drawings.
- Interface with key network partners.
- Work with DWDM engineering team to make sure capacity is provisioned as needed to ensure a congestion free and fully protected IP network.
- Ensure all site records are updated and accurate.
- Ensure all network procedures and policies are followed.
- Coordinate network parts inventory.
- Design and provision network services for customers.
- Perform maintenance on network equipment when needed.
- Attend various meetings with management, other departments, and vendors to ensure company objectives are met.
- Participate in inter-departmental planning meetings to coordinate and communicate activities related to the successful completion of projects.
- Support Network Engineering, Network deployment and Service Architecture needs across the shared backbone infrastructure.
- Work closely with Network Operations personnel to hand-off newly deployed equipment and customer services for ongoing surveillance and management.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of core network engineering experience in the ISP/telecommunications space required.
- Excellent understanding of layers 1-3 in network design and troubleshooting.
- Ability to understand as-built network design from edge, core and access layers in an ISP environment.
- Outstanding attention to detail and preparation.
- Experience working with either Cisco & Juniper platforms. Specifically BGP, IS-IS, L2VPN, MPLS, and HSRP.
- Experience provisioning or commissioning telecommunications network elements such as routers, switches, DSLAMs, PON, TDM, VOIP, DWDM required.
- Experience with BGP/OSFP and MPLS LDP/TE required.
- Experience with various equipment assets and circuit inventory systems required.
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents such as vendor deployment guidelines, white papers, and configuration manuals.
Additional Information
This contract-to-hire role can work remotely from within the U.S. Upon conversion to full-time employment, this role will pay up to $140,000 per year. Due to the nature of the projects being supported, this role will require the selected candidate to be a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
