The First Judicial District of Pennsylvania (“FJD”) is the Philadelphia County Court System and is composed of two courts: the Court of Common Pleas and the Municipal Court. The mission of the FJD is to adjudicate cases and provide services to the community within our jurisdiction while ensuring fair, timely, and accessible justice to the people of Philadelphia. The FJD is part of the Unified Judicial System reporting into the Pennsylvania Supreme Court of Pennsylvania.
Job Description
Ideal candidate is someone interested in a career in law and looking for greater exposure to the functioning of the judiciary while obtaining a law degree, or immediately after completion of law school. This is specialized work functioning as a personal aide to a member of judiciary in the Trial Division – Civil, Court of Common Pleas in Philadelphia. An employee in this class is directly responsible to and serves at the discretion of the appointing Judge.

Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Actively participates in courtroom operations; remains in the courtroom while court is in session as instructed by the appointing Judge.
- Provides all necessary logistical support for Judge’s work in courtrooms.
- Maintains chambers filing system.
- Searches for and studies legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration.
- Assists judicial law clerks with file and courtroom case scheduling preparation.
- Performs legal research and writing projects as assigned according to capabilities.
- Performs related duties as required.

- Strong organizational skills and solid work ethic.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a self-directed fashion.
- Ability to learn and apply, within a reasonable period, the components, and functions of applicable courtroom operations and computer systems.
- Ability to learn and apply, within a reasonable period trial procedures, rules, and regulations required to facilitate court proceedings.
- Ability to follow written and oral directions and to communicate effectively.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members of the judiciary, attorneys, associates, employees, and the public.

Work-Life
Working hours are 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, in person position with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is minimally required.
- Graduate of a law school or a currently enrolled law student who is available to work full time during business hours is preferred.
- Appropriate experience in the use of Windows Software applications.
- Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class.
- Covid-19 vaccination recommended.

Salary Range: $43,207 - $47,350
