Agency Description

The Office of Transportation, Infrastructure and Sustainability (oTIS) directs the policies and practices that improve quality of life in all of Philadelphia’s communities through safe and sustainable infrastructure. oTIS leads a portfolio of departments, including Streets TransportationStreets Sanitation, the Office of Sustainability, and Philadelphia Water Department (PWD), to provide cost-effective quality services with a focus on the resident.

The Office of Sustainability (OOS) works with partners around the City to improve quality of life in all Philadelphia neighborhoods, reduce the City’s carbon emissions, and prepare Philadelphia for a hotter, wetter future.  OOS is responsible for implementing Greenworks Philadelphia, the City’s comprehensive sustainability plan and houses the Energy Office and the Food Policy Advisory Council.

The City of Philadelphia’s Energy Office serves to manage energy supply and demand for city government operations. The mission of the Energy Office is to:

  • Strategically procure cost effective, reliable, clean energy and conventional energy systems for city government
  • Promote energy conservation and efficiency within City departments by providing education, technical expertise, promoting systems change, and analysis of energy used
  • Develop and implement projects and programs that promote the efficient use of energy and reduce the City's environmental impact
  • Support Philadelphia’s climate and energy goals; and position City government to lead by example

Job Description

The Program Coordinator, reporting to the City Energy Manager, coordinates various energy management programs across buildings within the City’s portfolio. The Program Coordinator will collaborate with other members of the Energy Office, the Office of Sustainability (OOS), and additional partner departments and agencies throughout municipal government. This is an opportunity to help solve complex problems, gain valuable experience in energy and facilities management, and contribute to the sustainability goals outlined in the City’s Municipal Energy Master Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Assist in managing the City’s compliance with Philadelphia's Building Energy Performance Policy program for 30+ municipal buildings.
  • Coordinate the demand response program for 30+ buildings.
  • Coordinate and schedule meetings and on-site visits with building operators, staff, and contractors.
  • Coordinate with the Office of Emergency Management and operating departments to ensure critical buildings are prepared for extreme weather events.
  • Attend project meetings, take meeting minutes, and follow-up with deliverables as needed.
  • Communicate savings of completed energy efficiency and conservation projects.
  • Develop a process for reporting completed work and program progress to the project team.
  • Support Energy Office staff in running reports, analyzing data, supporting energy conservation and efficiency programs, and completing office administrative items.
  • Develop blog post and social media content for the Energy Office.
  • Support Office of Sustainability priority areas, including racial equity and environmental justice work.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications

  • At least two years of full-time professional level experience working in an established business or public entity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in energy management, business management, or directly relevant field, OR any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with LEED and ENERGY STAR certifications.
  • LEED Green Associate credential.
  • Familiarity with energy and heating, ventilation & air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
  • Knowledge of new and emerging trends in the area of energy efficiency and energy management.
  • Ability to articulate environmental burdens and effectively convey an equitable solution to a diverse range of audiences.
  • Energy management program experience.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel.

Additional Information

Salary Range: $45,000-$55,000
