Job Description

This position is responsible for organizing the implementation of a job readiness/career exploration program and college going program for students. The Student Coordinator will provide day-to-day leadership to students as they apply, enroll and spend time at local job sites as interns and students that commit to college enrollment. Duties include direct management of 30+ students, administrative support, program planning, program support, data management and maintaining evaluation records. This position is also responsible for the recruitment, retention and skill building of student participants.

Essential Functions

  • Coordinate job readiness and career exploration program and activities in collaboration with the Career Pathways Manager
  • Recruit students to apply and enroll in the program
  • Provide supervision, leadership, motivation, team building, conflict resolution and support to student participants
  • Establish positive relationships and effective communication with students and ensure high rates of satisfaction with their placement and skill building
  • Establish relationships with external partners as needed to resource students during and before/after program implementation schools
  • Gather and maintain evaluation records pertaining to program performance, particularly regarding impact on high school students
  • Ensure the submission of all required information from the site to appropriate program staff
  • Create and lead the professional development component of the program for students
  • Plan and host job readiness and post-secondary planning events at school sites and any other identified location in partnership with Promise Corps 
  • Often directly responsible for students and at times Promise Corps AmeriCorps members
  • Tasks to support Promise Corps annual programming may also be required

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • Equivalencies with work experience in employee and youth engagement work will be considered
  • At least one (1) year of experience in an education setting or experience working directly with youth in urban communities
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work and clearance of FBI, child abuse and PA state criminal background checks
  • A valid PA driver’s license is required
  • Must be comfortable and confident commuting in and around Philadelphia via public transit and in a vehicle

Competencies, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Successful characteristics include:

  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability and commitment to work beyond traditional working hours and schedule is required
  • Managing and/or supervising people, preferably youth
  • Knowledge of career exploration and job readiness program goals and effectiveness locally and nationally
  • Understanding and experience with college readiness
  • Experience working with service-learning, AmeriCorps programming, or national service is preferred
  • Familiarity with and proven successful use of social media platforms.
  • Excellent oral and written communication, critical thinking, and analytical skills are also essential
