The Problems You’ll Solve:
The Senior Advisor for Strategy & Special Projects serves as a senior advisor to the Commissioner and helps turn the Mayor’s international priorities into a focused program of work. The Senior Advisor drives projects across the Mayor’s Office of International Affairs, bringing teams together, pushing initiatives from idea to execution, and ensuring the Commissioner’s priorities translate into action. Working closely with City Hall, City agencies, and international partners, the role also provides strategic scheduling and executive coordination for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners and supervises communications to ensure the Office’s international work is clear, accessible, and connected to the lives of New Yorkers.
Specifically, the Senior Advisor will:
- Drive implementation of the Commissioner’s priorities across all divisions, ensuring ideas move from strategy to execution.
- Lead cross-office projects and coordinate Deputy Commissioners, Directors, City agencies, City Hall, and external partners around shared priorities.
- Manage project plans, timelines, deliverables, and accountability for the Office’s highest priority initiatives.
- Provide strategic scheduling and executive coordination for the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioners, aligning meetings and engagements with the Office’s priorities.
- Supervise the Office’s communications function and support the Commissioner with briefings, messaging, and strategic advice.
- Lead special projects and other priority initiatives on behalf of the Commissioner.
About You:
- You have demonstrated supervisory or management experience, including experience leading staff, coordinating teams, or overseeing organizational functions.
- You have demonstrated experience managing complex, cross-functional projects involving multiple stakeholders, deadlines, and competing priorities.
- You have strong knowledge of New York City government and/or international institutions and multilateral fora; familiarity with international law or diplomatic protocol is a plus.
- You have excellent strategic, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with senior officials, City agencies, and external partners.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in government, international affairs, public policy, project management, operations, or a related field; an advanced degree is preferred.
