The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships.

The Central Records Division (CRD) is a critical operational command within the Support Services Bureau of the New York City Police Department. CRD directly supports NYPD units, ensures regulatory compliance, and collaborates with outside agencies.

The Division oversees four sub-units: Identification Unit (24hrs-7days), Stolen Property Inquiry Unit (24hrs-7days), Certificate of Conduct & Non-Criminal Fingerprint Unit, and the Criminal Records Unit. Some of the responsibilities of the Division's sub-units include: acting as the central repository for criminal and non-criminal identification of persons through fingerprints, transmitting alarms related to property, such as firearms and vehicles used in the commission of crimes, providing real-time responses to local, state, and nationwide law enforcement inquiries, issuing verifications of crime/lost property reports to complainants, and conducting background checks for members of the public requesting Certificates of Conduct.

The Deputy Director assists in the overall administration, strategic planning, and daily operation of the Central Records Division and its sub-units. This role provides executive-level oversight of the controlled dissemination of criminal justice information essential to public safety, while maintaining compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and NYPD policies. The Deputy Director will oversee managerial and other titles, provide leadership, guidance, evaluate performance, and continuously seek opportunities to build morale. The selected candidate will coordinate with internal NYPD units and external agencies. Key responsibilities include; developing, implementing and monitoring policies and procedures to enhance operational efficiency and accountability.

Whenever necessary, the Deputy Director will serve as the Division's representative and must exercise independent judgment by making critical operational decisions. This role requires active participation in executive meetings. The Deputy Director will assist in strategic decision-making and the execution of both short- and long-term goals to ensure efficiency and effectiveness across the Division and its sub-units. The selected candidate will serve as the Division's hiring manager, working in collaboration with the Staffing Administration Unit to maintain adequate staffing levels by interviewing candidates and making sound hiring recommendations to fill vacancies. Candidate must have a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment supporting four sub-units that render assistance to members of the Department, the public, and national law enforcement agencies.
