DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.

Reporting to the Director of Outreach, with varying degrees of latitude for independent initiative, judgment and decision making, the successful candidates will conduct outreach and community engagement, constituent correspondence, and project support on both new and existing Sanitation programs and initiatives that involve residential curbside recycling, composting, waste containerization, street scape cleanliness, and snow operations. Duties will include but not be limited to:
- Performing direct in-person and remote outreach and education to DSNY's diverse constituencies, including residents, building staff, property managers, elected officials, government agencies, community-based organizations, trade associations, and advocacy groups.
- Representing DSNY at public outreach events regularly, including community board and town hall meetings, and Agency walk-throughs on various topics related to Sanitation operations and programs, often during evenings and weekends.
- Tracking outreach activity outcome metrics, program outcomes, and public feedback.
- Responding to constituent inquiries and complaints via phone and email in a timely manner, ensuring accurate resolution.
- Supporting other Bureau functions and priorities as needed.
