Job Description

NYCHA’s Elevator Services & Repair Department’s Elevator Mechanics are responsible for the maintenance and repair of elevator devices throughout the five boroughs. Selected candidate will undergo training of various controllers, troubleshooting and understanding faults and safety procedures. Candidate will also be required to pass a final exam, must physically be able to climb (minimum) a five-story building or more, and carry at least 25 lbs. of tools and equipment.

Elevator Mechanic will be reporting to Supervisor of Elevator Mechanic, (under close supervision with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative.)

Duties include but are not limited to:

- Responding to outages.
- Performing Monthly Preventive Maintenance.
- Ensure NYCHA protocol and safety procedures are being followed.
- Communicating with Supervisor of Elevator Mechanics on the status of outages and issues pertaining to restoring devices back to service.
- Utilizing analytical reports received by supervisor to determine worse performing devices within their portfolio.

Note: Candidate must also possess New York State Department of Labor & New York City Department of Buildings Elevator Mechanic License. These licenses must be maintained for the duration of employment.

ELEVATOR MECHANIC - 90710

Qualifications

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last ten years as an elevator mechanic; or

2. Not less than four and one-half years of the experience described in ""1"" above plus one of the following:

A) At least 6 months of closely related experience in the repair and maintenance of electrical or electromechanical control systems, or electrical, hydraulic or mechanical components of the following: escalators, drawbridges, aircraft, rail cars, or mechanical doors; or

B) At least 600 hours of training acquired at a trade or technical school or vocational high school or completed post-secondary education, approved by a state's Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, with a major course of study in mechanical, electromechanical, electrical or electronic technology or closely related field.

License Requirements
At the time of appointment, candidates will be required to possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
