Job Description

Parking Management, Facilities, and Capital Projects Unit plays a vital role in the development, management, and operation of the City’s municipal parking infrastructure. The unit is responsible for managing 8 multi-level parking garages and 30 municipal parking fields across the city. We oversee structural inspections, capital projects, contract administration, and sustainability initiatives at parking facilities.
We are seeking a Parking Engineer to support the planning, design, maintenance, and inspection of municipal parking facilities. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain experience in facility management, structural assessment, capital project delivery, contract administration, sustainability planning, and transportation infrastructure. The successful candidate will work closely with engineers, contractors, consultants, facility operators, and other government agencies to support the continued operation and improvement of municipal parking facilities.
- Conduct structural and general condition inspections of parking garages, parking fields, and related infrastructure.
- Monitor and assess the condition of parking structures to support ongoing operations and capital planning
- Assist in identifying maintenance, repair, and capital improvement needs.
- Conduct studies and analyses related to parking occupancy, utilization, revenue, operational performance, and customer demand.
- Review engineering drawings, technical specifications, shop drawings, and contractor submittals.
- Assist with the administration and oversight of facility management and maintenance contracts.
- Monitor contractor compliance with contract specifications and performance requirements.
- Prepare technical specifications, requests for proposals, bid documents, and engineering cost estimates.
- Prepare AutoCAD drawings, site plans, sketches, and engineering exhibits.
- Assist in the design and layout of parking facilities, pavement markings, traffic control devices, wayfinding systems, and signage.
- Assist with the planning, design, and implementation of sustainability projects, including electric vehicle charging infrastructure, solar photovoltaic systems, and energy efficiency initiatives.
- Review construction plans, electrical layouts, technical specifications, and contractor proposals for sustainability projects.
- Monitor the operations of EV chargers to ensure performance and user accessibility.
- Coordinate with other units, contractors, and/or other agencies.
- Perform related work to support the safety and continued operation of municipal parking facilities.

Hours/Shift: 35 hour/M-F/7:00am to 3:00pm

“This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.”

Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in civil engineering and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and a Master's degree from an accredited college in civil engineering.
