Job Description

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The DOC Agility Team is seeking an energetic and reliable Summer Intern to support our fitness instruction team. This role is an entry level position ideal for someone passionate about health, wellness, and teamwork in a structured environment.

Key Responsibilities:

- Set up, organize, and maintain fitness equipment for daily use
- Assist with and occasionally lead training sessions with support of senior trainers.
- Demonstrate proper exercise techniques and participate in workouts as needed
- Provide general administrative support, including answering phones and taking
messages
- Utilize basic office tools such as printers, Microsoft Word, and Excel
- Support daily operations

Qualifications

- Strong interest in fitness and ability to perform physical exercises
- Positive attitude with strong team-oriented energy
- Comfortable working in a professional environment alongside both law enforcement
and civilian staff
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel

Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
