Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of NYC.

DEP's Fleet Services Division oversees the purchase, use, maintenance and management of DEP vehicles, special equipment and related services. Fleet Services also monitors compliance with NYC Fleet and Vision Zero mandates, fuel and E-ZPass rules, parking and traffic regulations, and driver safety initiatives. The Fleet Services team provides complete life cycle management (design / build, distribution / maintenance, and relinquishment) of approximately 5,000 pieces of equipment throughout the 5 boroughs and NYC’s unique watershed.

Under the direct supervision of the Fleet Services Specialist, the selected candidate will perform the following tasks:

- Assist in the preparation of scheduling delivery/pick up of DEP vehicles/equipment for repairs.
- Perform data-entry and assist in the creation of reports.
- Provide customer service for external/internal fleet service clients.
- Assist in the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for internal Fleet Service processes.

In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.

Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
