Job Description

The City of Mission is seeking two Labourer 2 – Roads & Drainage team members to support the construction, maintenance, and repair of municipal roads and drainage infrastructure. Reporting to the Crew Supervisor, this hands-on role involves a broad range of skilled and semi-skilled duties including culvert and headwall installation, asphalt repairs, ditching, sidewalk and boulevard maintenance, grading and backfilling, crack sealing, concrete finishing, signage installation, snow removal, and other public works maintenance activities.

The role also includes operating vehicles up to and including a one-tonne truck, preparing traffic control plans, acting as a flag person and backhoe spotter, assisting with loading and unloading materials, maintaining records of work performed, and supporting safe and efficient execution of municipal projects.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or equivalent, related coursework, and considerable experience in general construction and maintenance work, including the safe operation of hand and power tools, equipment, and machinery. BCIT coursework such as Introduction to Public Works would be considered an asset. Applicants must be physically capable of performing the essential duties of the role, able to work with a high degree of independence, and committed to maintaining positive public relations with the community. A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence is required, while a Class 1 or 3 with air endorsement is considered desirable. Occupational First Aid Level 1 and Traffic Control Certification are also required.

Additional Information

These are full-time positions working a compressed four-day work week, either Monday to Thursday or Tuesday to Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Compensation for this position is $34.31 per hour (2025 rate) plus a comprehensive benefits package upon completion of the probationary period.
