Job Description

Checkout.com's finance department is looking for a hands-on professional in Tokyo, Japan who can provide expert support to the Regional Payments Manager - APAC, having a proven track record to work with minimal day to day supervision.

The successful candidate will need to be an independent, diligent individual, able to stand out in an entrepreneurial environment. This role is an excellent opportunity to further improve existing knowledge. 

What you'll be doing

  • Liquidity Management: Analyze cash inflows and outflows to determine liquidity requirements for merchant processing.

  • FX Trades: Execute foreign exchange trades to ensure sufficient liquidity.

  • Contractual Review: Review merchant contractual terms to determine optimal payout cycles and funding requirements.

  • Merchant Payments: Process merchant payments across various regional banking platforms, including Zengin payment rail.

  • Transaction Monitoring: Monitor and reconcile transactions and payment volumes daily across all systems.

  • Scheme Reconciliation: Undertake daily scheme reconciliations, compare clearing with the receipt of funds, and investigate deviations.

  • Payment Processing: Input, review, and approve outgoing merchant payments.

  • Query Management: Address merchant payment queries and conduct investigations as needed.

  • Process Improvement: Review and refine processes and procedures to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Partner Collaboration: Collaborate closely with external partners (e.g., banks, card schemes, regulators) to resolve issues and streamline operations.

  • Cross-Functional Teamwork: Work with multiple internal teams (e.g., Commercial, Product, Legal, Compliance, Accounting) to ensure successful product launches and operational readiness.

  • Problem Solving: Use strong problem-solving skills and deep system knowledge to resolve customer queries with a focus on service excellence.

  • Treasury Support: Assist the regional treasury team with various tasks as required.

  • Reporting: Prepare ad hoc reports and assist with regulatory submissions as needed

Qualifications

About You

  • In-depth understanding of payments & treasury process including Zengin payment rail.

  • Knowledge of banking system including Japan’s

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with tight delivery schedules and prioritize accordingly

  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability

  • Process-oriented and high level of attention to detail

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to build strong cross-functional relationships and work collaboratively

  • Demonstrated experience of working within the financial services industry with an understanding of Payments

  • High level of proficiency with MS Excel (Highly desirable)

  • Process driven – You understand processes intuitively, are highly organized, and are constantly on the lookout to improve the way you work. You love tweaking things.

  • Collaborative – You seek first to understand and then to be understood. You communicate your actions and intentions clearly - verbally as well as in written form.

  • Proactive – You have a proactive attitude towards problems. You pay attention to details and think about the implications of what you are doing.
