Our Transforming Rehabilitation service operates across Dorset, Devon and Cornwall, offering support in prison through to release and resettlement into the community to reduce the risk of re-offending.

Job Description

We are looking to recruit a full time Resettlement Case Manager to join our resettlement team in HMP Exeter on a Fixed Term Contract until the 1st December 2020, with the likelihood of an extension until June 2021. You will be working with a range of Service Users, helping them to desist from crime and reach their true potential. As a Resettlement  Case Manager you will manage a caseload of Service Users and complete ongoing assessments and management of each Service Users risks, needs and capacity, opportunity and motivation to stop offending. You will be delivering interventions that support rehabilitation and resettlement, working in partnership with a range of local providers.

As a Resettlement Case Manager, your main accountabilities will include:

  • Undertaking assessments of remand and sentenced prisoners and working with the prison and other colleagues to address immediate needs.
  • Undertaking assessments of foreign national prisoners and working with prison and other relevant colleagues to address immediate  and ongoing needs.
  • Undertaking assessments and producing Resettlement Plans and reviews, engaging with each Service User and taking account of their risks, needs and capacity, opportunity and motivation to stop offending.
  • Supervising Service Users during their prison sentence and directly delivering interventions that support their rehabilitation and resettlement.
  • Informing, consulting and involving each Service User in determining rehabilitation plans and activities.
  • Taking a co-ordinating role working with colleagues and partners in the prison and the community and engaging peer and volunteer mentors to ensure that Service Users comply with agreed activities  and enabling access to resources that support rehabilitation and resettlement.
  • Actively promoting equality and diversity, taking account of each Service Users different needs.
  • Managing risk using prison procedures in appropriate cases.
  • Representing the service in relevant prison and community meetings.
  • Maintaining records in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Delivering a group work programme (Making a Change – MAC) to prisoners. Engaging and motivating prisoners to take part in sessions and delivering practical skills around several pathways to support a reduction in re-offending.

Qualifications

The day-to-day work as a Resettlement Case Manager engaging offenders will draw upon each of the five key competencies: risk of harm, engagement, diversity, communication and teamwork.

Essential criteria

  • Experience of working with offenders and/or disadvantaged people.
  • Working knowledge and application of relevant legislation, research and policies around Offender Rehabilitation Act and Offender Management.
  • An understanding of the importance of risk assessment and management.
  • Strong commitment to engaging service users and passionate about supporting them to stop offending and transform their lives.
  • Ability to engage Service Users to support their rehabilitation and enable the reduction of re-offending.
  • Good organisational skills, an ability to organise and manage multiple tasks successfully whilst working under pressure and to meet deadlines.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to produce Rehabilitation Plans, breach reports etc.
  • A positive approach and commitment to both team and partnership working.

Desirable criteria

  • An understanding of models of evidence and methodologies in relation to offender rehabilitation
  • Skills in risk assessment and management and evidenced based decision making.
  • Experience of engaging offenders or other socially excluded groups.
  • Demonstrable engagement skills including interviewing and motivating skills.
  • Experience of writing supervision plans or reports.
  • Skills gained from experience of partnership working.
  • Resilience and a strong work ethic.

Additional Information

Salary: £20,000 - £22,000

  • 28 days annual leave + bank holidays, rising to 33 days with service
