Games developers are involved in the creation and production of games that range from computer, handheld, console and arcade games to games on the internet, mobile phones and other wireless game applications. Their work involves either design (including art and animation) or programming.

Games development is a fast-moving, multi-billion pound industry. The making of a game from concept to finished product can take up to three years and involve teams of up to 200 professionals. There are many stages, including creating and designing a game’s look and how it plays, animating characters and objects, creating audio, programming, localisation, testing and producing.

The games developer job title covers a broad area of work and there are many specialisms within the industry. These include:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience
• 5-15 years development experience in several Object Oriented languages like Java and Ruby
• 3+ years in managing software applications including web based
• 3+ years’ experience working in large scale high performance web environments
• Strong knowledge of web application frameworks and patterns (Struts, Spring, Rails, JSF, MVC)
• Experience writing SQL queries and strong knowledge of relational database structures
• Experience writing AJAX modules
• Ability to successfully resolve stressful production issues
• Application build tools experience like Ant, Maven, and Rake
• Familiarity with Continuous Integration tools like Cruisecontrol or Hudson
• Automated test designs
• Strong experience with repository tools like Subversion, CVS, or Git
• Experience using Application Servers
• Excellent problem solving skills with strong attention to detail
• Strong knowledge of Internet/Web technologies and languages including Javascript, CSS and HTML
• User Interface (UI) development experience
• Exceptional problem solving skills

Qualifications (Preferred):

• Expert knowledge of object-oriented programming techniques
• Mobile development including Objective C for the iOS Apple platform
• SOA experience with strong familiarity with SOAP, REST, JMS..
• Experience with one or more agile development methodologies, like SCRUM or XP
• Unix admin knowledge
• Awareness of Infrastructure as Code tools like Chef and Puppet
• Amazon Web Services and auto scaling knowledge. Especially RDS, BeanStalk, SQS, Cloudwatch.

I like to make BBQ sauce in my parents basement because I don't really like going out and that's all there is to do in my small little town. Because of that I built an online website called Sauce Boss's Sauces and people go there to look at my website about the sauces that I make. I sell them to people. They buy them. Its fun because they tell me "Hey! Buddy, you make some good BBQ sauce. You really are the Sauce Boss!" and I laugh. Wanna know why? Well because they're silly. I know I'm the Sauce Boss ... that's why my names Sauce Boss. Hehehe.
