Senior Product Manager - AI Developer Experience

  • Full-time
  • Recruitment type: Permanent

Job Description

Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, g'day, mabuhay, kia ora, 你好, hallo, vítejte!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a little time consuming and you're probably keen to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

What you’d be doing in this role

As Canva scales change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's all part of the fun. So this will give you the flavour of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this will likely evolve.

At the moment, this role is focused on:

  • Drive the AI engineering strategy and roadmap. Working alongside engineering and technical leadership, you'll shape the vision for how AI accelerates Canva's 2,000+ engineers—defining the tooling stack, prioritizing platform investments, and building the business cases that unlock budget and resources.

  • Build deep, continuous connection with the engineering community. Run weekly office hours, host bi-weekly AI Engineering Roundtables, maintain rotating 1:1s with power users, and stay active in Slack channels. You'll become the recognized expert on AI tooling at Canva—someone engineers seek out for advice, feedback, and support.

  • Remove barriers and drive adoption. Identify the highest-impact pain points across the SDLC, ship quick wins that solve repeated problems, create self-service documentation and guides, and run enablement sessions that help teams level up. Your success is measured by how fast engineering teams adopt AI tools and the gains they unlock.

  • Define and communicate success. Build the measurement framework that tracks adoption, productivity, satisfaction, and ROI. Tell the story through regular metrics updates, demos, and case studies that keep stakeholders aligned and prove the value of AI engineering investments.

  • Curate the tooling landscape and experiment at the edge. Maintain a living comparison of AI coding tools, run pilots on emerging capabilities, partner with bleeding-edge adopters to test unproven practices, and influence vendor roadmaps. You'll be the bridge between external innovation and internal application.

  • Experiment and build constantly. You're a practitioner first - using AI coding tools daily, building prototypes and demos, creating automation workflows, and testing new techniques before recommending them. You learn by doing, and your hands-on experience gives you credibility with engineers and informs every strategic decision you make.

  • Elevate the platform product practice. Model strong product thinking in a highly technical environment, mentor other platform PMs, and contribute to raising the bar on how we discover, prioritize, and deliver for internal customers.

You're probably a match if

This is a new and rapidly-moving space. We're less concerned with checking boxes and more interested in finding a high-agency, highly-motivated builder who is customer obsessed, can thrive at pace, learn continuously, and lead through a community-first approach.

  • 7+ years of product or platform leadership in technical environments. Deep experience with developer platforms, internal platforms, or technical B2B products. You've built for technical users and understand what it takes to earn their trust and drive adoption.

  • You're a practitioner, not just a strategist. You use AI coding tools (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) and automation platforms (n8n, Zapier, Power Automate) every single day. You're an early adopter who experiments constantly, and you have strong opinions informed by hands-on experience—not just blog posts and vendor pitches.

  • Strong product fundamentals across the full lifecycle. Discovery, synthesis of qualitative and quantitative signals, problem framing, roadmapping, stakeholder communication, and community building. Most importantly, you're deeply empathetic—you can put yourself in engineers' shoes and feel their pain points viscerally.

  • Technical fluency with modern engineering practices. You understand CI/CD pipelines, developer workflows, and the software development lifecycle. Previous experience working on developer experience platforms, internal tooling, or DevOps products is ideal. Prior experience as an engineer or demonstrated technical building skills is highly regarded.

  • You've shipped complex, multi-stakeholder platforms. You know how to navigate ambiguity, align diverse technical teams (backend, frontend, ML, data), and deliver products that scale. You've built things that thousands of people use daily.

  • Bonus: AI platform or product experience. If you've worked directly on AI-focused engineering tooling, or tackled AI in platform and infrastructure contexts, that's likely a strong advantage.
