Canam Steel Corporation is a major US manufacturer of open web steel joists and steel deck.  The company participates in thousands of projects each year ranging from large distribution centers and high rise projects, to small retail centers.  The steel joist business in the US dates back to 1986 as a partnership with Canam Group and our steel deck business was launched by an acquisition of the United Steel Deck brand in 2010.  The Corporation currently operates six fabrication facilities, several sales and engineering offices, and employs approximately 800 people across the United States.

Job Description

Leads, recommends, and implements process improvement, problem resolution, and project management.  Uses appropriate continuous improvement tools and methodologies to analyze current state and explores future state solutions for plant layouts, fabrication methods, material flow, and front end business processes.  Conducts research to recommend and implement improvements with technology and engineering principles.  Participates in the Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP) process.  Explores and develops the use of technology (equipment, communications, integration) to improve safety and financial (EBITDA and NWC) performance.

 

Essential Job Duties:

·Leads lean improvement initiatives throughout the business based upon pull by the leadership team. Projects are both with physical flow (mfg & supply chain) and information flow (office, transactional)

·Accountable for business case of assigned projects to progress Enterprise safety, EBITDA, and working capital

·Accountable for leading development projects and seamlessly handing-off and support to those who execute

·Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks;  participating in professional societies.

·Teaches and champions Lean (Tools, Culture, Management Infrastructure) through leadership and participation within improvement projects

·Embeds technology into workflow (connectivity, workflow automation, analytics)

·Leverages data and information available from internal and external information systems and sources providing exponential progression for our business information

·Performs other related duties as assigned.

·Promote co-worker participation and teamwork by incorporating task teams to solve problems and implement changes

·Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs, applying knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials;  conferring with equipment vendors;  soliciting observations from operators

·Regularly communicates and presents to all levels regarding status, change management, and progress

·Provides data-based decision-making information through the utilization of enhancing data and information utilizing modern analytics techniques and platforms such as python, R, MATLAB, SQL, Tableau, others

·Has knowledge of and ability to learn PLC programming

Qualifications

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·Demonstrated operational improvements through project leadership and results tracking

·Database management and query with common platforms such as SQL, Access

·Excellent communication skills to communicate verbally, in writing, and make presentations

·Must be able to handle multiple projects simultaneously

·Must have knowledge of computers, assembly practices, tools and fixturing

·Ability to summarize data and information with tools such as Tableau, R, Python, MATLAB

·Programming abilities through use of Python, R, MATLAB (preferred)

·Comfort leveraging and integrating with ERP and execution systems

·Must excel at working in a team environment

Additional Information

REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education and Experience:

·Bachelor degree in Engineering or equivalent (MS preferred)

·1-3 years experience demonstrating cross-functional projects, analytics, operations modeling, database management, reliability engineering
