Job Description

Position Summary

California Closets is seeking a skilled and dependable Interior Paint and Finish Technician to support our custom storage and organization installations. This role is responsible for preparing customer homes for installation by safely removing existing closet systems and shelving, repairing walls, matching textures, and completing high-quality paint touch-ups and full wall painting to ensure a professional finished appearance.

The ideal candidate takes pride in craftsmanship, works efficiently with minimal supervision, and is committed to delivering exceptional customer service in occupied residential environments.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Tear-Out & Site Preparation

  • Safely remove existing closet systems, shelving, cabinetry, hardware, and related materials.
  • Protect flooring, furniture, and surrounding areas during demolition and repair activities.
  • Dispose of removed materials in accordance with company procedures and local regulations.
  • Prepare work areas to ensure readiness for installation crews.

Drywall Repair & Patching

  • Repair drywall damage resulting from tear-outs or previous installations.
  • Patch holes, dents, anchor locations, and other wall imperfections.
  • Sand and prepare surfaces to achieve a smooth, paint-ready finish.
  • Ensure repairs blend seamlessly with surrounding wall surfaces.

Texture Matching & Finishing

  • Match existing wall textures, including orange peel, knockdown, smooth wall, and other common finishes.
  • Apply texture products and techniques to create a consistent appearance.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure high-quality results and customer satisfaction.

Painting, Trim Work & Finishing

  • Prime repaired drywall and patched areas as required to ensure proper paint adhesion and a uniform finish.
  • Match existing paint colors and finishes as closely as possible to provide seamless repairs.
  • Perform professional paint touch-ups on walls, ceilings, trim, baseboards, door casings, crown molding, and other painted surfaces.
  • Complete full-wall painting when spot repairs or touch-ups are not sufficient to achieve a consistent appearance.
  • Paint entire rooms or multiple wall surfaces as needed to meet project requirements and customer expectations.
  • Prepare surfaces for painting through cleaning, sanding, caulking, masking, and protecting adjacent finishes and furnishings.
  • Repair, caulk, and paint trim components including baseboards, door frames, window casings, crown molding, and other architectural details.
  • Ensure paint lines are clean, straight, and consistent, maintaining a high-quality finished appearance.
  • Identify and correct visible imperfections prior to final painting and project completion.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and properly store, handle, and dispose of paint and related materials.
  • Conduct a final quality inspection to ensure all paint, trim work, and wall repairs meet California Closets standards and customer expectations.

Customer Service & Professionalism

  • Communicate professionally and courteously with homeowners.
  • Represent California Closets in a positive and professional manner.
  • Address customer questions within the scope of the position.
  • Maintain clean and organized job sites.

Safety & Equipment

  • Follow all company safety policies and procedures.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, ladders, and painting equipment.
  • Maintain company vehicles, tools, and equipment in good working order.
  • Report safety concerns, damage, or project issues promptly.

Qualifications

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in drywall repair, patching, texture application, and painting.
  • Experience using common construction and painting tools.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work on ladders and in various residential environments.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in residential remodeling, finish carpentry, closet installation, or related trades.
  • Knowledge of drywall finishing techniques and texture matching.
  • Experience working in occupied residential homes.
  • Basic understanding of construction drawings and work orders.
