Job Description

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineer II to support the design and engineering of HVAC, mechanical utilities, and plumbing systems for advanced technology facilities. This role involves executing design tasks under the guidance of senior engineers and contributing to all phases of project delivery—from conceptual design through construction administration.

In addition to HVAC and mechanical systems, this position places a strong emphasis on plumbing design, including domestic water, sanitary waste, storm drainage, and specialty piping systems. The ideal candidate will have foundational experience in plumbing engineering and a desire to grow their expertise in this area while working on complex, multidisciplinary projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical systems of basic complexity, including HVAC, mechanical utilities, and plumbing systems, in compliance with applicable codes and standards.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as load analysis, pressure drop, and equipment sizing.
  • Develop system schematics, P&IDs, plans, schedules, and installation details.
  • Assist in the development of construction drawing packages and specifications with oversight.
  • Support plumbing design tasks including:
    • Domestic cold and hot water systems
    • Sanitary and storm drainage systems
    • Natural gas and compressed air systems
    • Specialty piping (e.g., purified water, process waste)
  • Conduct field surveys and integrate design with existing conditions.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, vendors, and trade partners to ensure coordinated and constructible designs.
  • Participate in squad checks and contribute to quality assurance efforts.
  • Support construction activities including RFIs, submittal reviews, punch lists, and progress reports.
  • Mentor junior designers and contribute to internal training efforts.
  • Attend professional development activities and expand technical skill sets.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering (mechanical focus) from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
  • Basic experience in HVAC, mechanical utility, and plumbing system design and implementation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office Suite, and Bluebeam Revu.
  • Experience in life sciences (pharmaceutical, biotech, laboratory) or food & beverage industries.
  • Familiarity with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and building codes.
  • Knowledge of industry standards (ASHRAE, SMACNA, ISPE, FDA, ISO, NFPA, OSHA).
  • Experience conducting field surveys and supporting field reporting.
  • Foundational experience in plumbing design and documentation.
  • Exposure to Revit plugins (e.g., Enscape, Unifi) and parametric tools (e.g., Dynamo, Grasshopper, Rhino).
  • Strong coordination skills across disciplines and with construction partners.
  • LEED, WELL, or other sustainable design credentials or experience.
