Job Description

Mechanical Estimators will estimate HVAC, Process Piping, Plumbing, Fire Protection and Equipment Installation in contribution to overall project estimates. Mechanical Estimators are expected to adapt quantification and pricing methods to match the intended use of the estimate and the level of project definition available. Early stages of design and project definition will require conceptual mechanical estimating methods, whereas detailed labor and material estimates will be developed as design approaches full-project definition. At times, the Mechanical Estimator will support bidding and buyout of projects by preparing scopes of work, reviewing and levelling bids, and making final recommendations to the project team. The Mechanical Estimating will report to the Director of Estimating and will be utilized in support of projects in regions where CRB conducts business. 

This position can be remote but the employee must be commutable to a CRB office. 

Responsibilities

  • Execute the mechanical portion of project estimates, On occasion when project scopes is primarily mechanical, this position will lead the overall execution of cost estimates.
  • Adapt quantification and pricing methods to match the intended use of the estimate and the level of project definition available
  • Support database update efforts for mechanical disciplines 
  • Organize, plan and manage multiple activities to accomplish desired results
  • Work effectively and make decisions under tight deadline
  • Read and comprehend construction drawings and specifications
  • Apply your mechanical expertise to help fill in white space for conceptual projects
  • Prepare scopes of work and contribute to bid reviews and recommendations for award for mechanical subcontracts 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of two years of experience preferred in the following types of projects: Life Science Projects; Industrial Projects; Commercial Projects
  • Must have experience estimating Mechanical scopes, including but not limited to HVAC, Process Piping, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Equipment Installation 

Additional Qualifications

  • Individual must be self-motivated and possess strong communication/interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work independently without supervision as well as part of a team
  • Understand project logistics and project schedules
  • Understand standard construction details for their specific discipline(s)
  • Understand and account for white space scope through experience and communication with project team (designers, estimators, project managers)
  • Knowledge of estimating practices and procedures including software input and data manipulation utilizing estimating software such as Sage Estimating and Onscreen Takeoff
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook)
