Job Description
Mission
The Utility Distribution Power Line Designer’s mission is to work within a team of designers to design efficient and reliable distribution lines and perform relevant design tasks as required. The intern will coordinate within activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project within budget and client satisfaction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist designers on site visits to determine the nature of work required (poles, conductors, anchors, equipment condition assessment)
- Utilize GIS data to design overhead & underground distribution networks
- Assist on preparing construction drawings in AutoCAD or Microstation for proposed distribution systems (Overhead and Underground)
- Assist in completing applications for all applicable municipality construction permits
- Perform review, verifications and design processes for third-party attachments on utility poles and check documents as part of the approval process
- Help engineering team with review of designs in order to ensure accuracy, perform quality control and quality checks prior to project release
- Assist in ensuring that completed work adheres to engineering and construction standards and Ontario Regulation 22/04
- Help preparing as-built construction drawings
Qualifications
- A College student in Electrical Engineering or Power Utility related field
- Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and effectively
- Working knowledge on Power Utility projects of utility preferences and Utility construction & design practices will be considered as an advantage
- Working knowledge of CAD in the preparation of design drawings (e.g., AutoCad, MicroStation) will be considered as an advantage
- Valid driving licence will be considered as an advantage
