Job Description
We're looking for an experienced and motivated professional to join our Witcher 4 QA team as an Open World QA Analyst, with a strong focus on Community systems. In this role, you’ll be primarily responsible for testing and validating the behaviors, interactions, and overall quality of NPC communities across the open world - ensuring they feel alive, coherent, and reactive within a dynamic game environment.
If you have a solid background in QA and enjoy working with complex systems (especially around AI behaviors, crowds and emergent interactions) and you’re passionate about creating believable, immersive worlds - this role is for you.
We believe diverse voices make for better games. If you're someone who thrives on cross-team collaboration, enjoys solving complex systemic challenges, and cares deeply about how players experience living, breathing communities within the open world, we’d love to hear from you.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop QA test plans and strategies with a strong focus on Community systems and hubs, including NPC behaviors, daily routines, social interactions, and systemic reactivity within the open world.
- Write and maintain test cases and checklists covering NPC communities, crowd dynamics, behavioral states, schedule consistency, and interactions with players, quests, and environmental conditions.
- Create, organize, and maintain clear documentation to support team-wide knowledge sharing - including NPC/system behaviors, edge cases, regression reports, and cross-system dependencies.
- Collaborate closely with AI, world design, level design, and technical teams to verify correct implementation of NPC logic, community behaviors, and their interactions with streaming, quest states, and regional systems.
- Conduct thorough testing of emergent gameplay scenarios, including how NPCs react to player actions, disruptions (e.g. combat, time changes), and transitions such as save/load, fast travel, and streaming boundaries.
- Identify, debug, and report issues related to NPC logic, behavior consistency, state persistence, and systemic interactions, track resolutions, and verify fixes.
- Analyze data and assess risks related to scalability, performance, and stability of NPC systems, especially in high-density areas and complex gameplay states.
- Provide actionable, constructive feedback on believability, readability, and consistency of NPC communities, helping ensure that hubs feel alive, reactive, and coherent within the game world.
- Perform hardware-focused testing to ensure stable performance of community systems, including crowd density, AI processing, and streaming behavior across platforms.
Qualifications
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a similar role, preferably focused on open world or systemic gameplay.
- Proven experience creating and verifying detailed test plans and checklists.
- Skilled in documenting test processes and managing bugs using JIRA, TestRail, or similar tools.
- Experience in testing NPC behaviors, AI systems, or simulation-based features is highly valued.
- Solid debugging skills and a structured approach to identifying root causes in complex, multi-system environments.
- Familiarity with region-based logic and open world systems.
- Ability to identify, track, and report issues related to traversal, dynamic content, and environment interactions.
- Experience with hardware variability testing across different platforms and configurations.
- Strong analytical skills and a structured approach to problem-solving.
- Clear, respectful communicator and reliable team player.
- Proactive mindset and ownership—ability to drive testing areas independently and follow through on complex topics.
- Fluent in English.
- Passion for immersive game worlds, with an eye for how NPC systems translate into player experience.
- Solid understanding of the video game market, with a focus on open world games and their design trends
Nice to Have
- Experience testing games across multiple platforms (PC, consoles).
- Experience with NPC crowd systems, scheduling systems, or AI state machines.
- Familiarity with debugging tools, logs, or scripting tools used in game development
- Understanding of performance considerations related to AI and high-density environments.
- Experience in working in game dev studio
- Exposure to commercial game engines, especially Unreal Engine or Unity.
- Basic knowledge of automation tools or scripting for QA purposes.
