Job Description
Make your mark as a marine acoustic technician as Gardline!
The successful candidate will be expected to undertake protected species monitoring and mitigation including visual monitoring (MMO/PSO) and acoustic monitoring (use of PAM/Noise Monitoring systems) in accordance with appropriate legislation during offshore monitoring activities, both nationally and internationally. To provide technical support of acoustic equipment, and assistance in the production of acoustic data and marine wildlife reports.
This position may include work taking place in the waters of the United States of America (East Coast) therefore you will need to be able to obtain approval to work in this location.
Your responsibilities as a marine acoustic technician:
- Undertake the production and quality control of PSO, MMO and PAM reports for submission to regulatory bodies
- Be willing to lead an offshore mitigation team
- Responsible for maintenance and upkeep of all acoustic/mitigation equipment
- Undertake the production, quality control and analysis of acoustic data for submission to clients and regulatory bodies, where required
- Advise on country specific legislation regarding mitigation measures during seismic and other marine activities
- Prepare (or supervising the generation of) risk assessments and procedures in relation to mitigation projects
- Arrange and provide technical support on mitigation equipment
- Assist in mobilisation of vessels, help with practical queries and ensure the mobilisation is carried out
Your qualities
- You can move ahead as a marine acoustic technician if you have:
- Previous MMO, PSO (Lead), and PAM experience
- Approved or able to seek approval to work in the USA
- Technical knowledge of acoustic hardware
- Experience of Maintenance and repair of acoustic equipment
- Acoustic software trouble-shooting
- Some marine survey experience or working on vessels
- A good understanding of protected species, marine mammals and seabirds; their biology and identification
- A good command of written and spoken English
- Willing to travel (predominantly to the East Coast of USA) on a regular basis
- You’re willing to work on location for up to six weeks at a time, followed by up to four weeks’ leave
Qualifications
- Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Marine Mammal Science.
- Acoustic related degree or academic course.
- JNCC MMO

- Where you will work: Onboard our multi-role survey vessels, which is likely to include the USA (East Coast) or world wide where Gardline vessels operate
- Full time job: The position of marine acoustic technician is a full-time role, based on 12 hour shift rotation whilst onboard
