Job Description

Make your mark as an Vessel Accountant for Boskalis Subsea Services located in Aberdeen!

As the Vessel Accountant, you will work within our busy finance team with a particular focus on monthly reporting for the vessels and our operations department. You take care of the daily vessel tracking covering fuel, vessel activity & vessel headcount. This task is supported by the Finance Placement Student using vessel daily reports (DPRs). You are in close contact with the vessel managers & budget holders, project teams and the Central fleet team in the Netherlands. 

You will be a confident user of MS Excel and be interested in studying towards a professional accountancy qualification.

Your responsibilities as an Vessel Accountant are:

  • Responsible for the vessel stock accounting and reporting.
  • Compile monthly BCR (cost report). Populating monthly YTD and full year forecast information along with supporting commentary to explain variances versus budget and prior month.
  • Capex treatment & reporting;  Follow & understand Capex process. Separately maintain & upkeep Fixed Asset Register with periodic reviews.
  • Vessel docking treatment & reporting; Follow & understand vessel docking process
  • Preparation & posting of month end accruals with sufficient notes & backup as well as the preparation of month end journals.
  • Monthly reforecasting exercise based on YTD cost position and vessel schedules outlook.
  • Preparation of balance sheet reconciliations on a monthly basis, investigation of any issues arising and provide necessary commentary.
  • Undertake analysis and reporting on goods received and not invoiced (GRNI)
  • Strong involvement in the annual budget process.  Liaise with (and assist) vessel managers in forming estimates; gathering data and filling out budget templates. 
  • Balance sheet reconciliations (monthly) ensuring full knowledge of all balances, and using sufficient notes and backup as evidence
  • Liaising with budget holders where required.
  • Undertake and support with finance projects and initiatives

You can make your mark as an Vessel Accountant if you have:

  • Education to degree level in a relevant Business or Numeric degree, preferably Accounting and Finance or relevant experience
  • Confident user of Excel and have relevant experience with ERP systems, asset accounting and balance sheet accounting
  • Good communication & organisational skills
  • Ability to work using own initiative and to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Ability to effectively manage own workload, and work given timescales
  • Flexible approach to the performance of the work with ability to react to urgent requirements

 Extra information

  • Your team: You will report to the Vessel Accountant and be part of the wider Finance team.
  • Where you will work: Your location will be our office in Aberdeen and you have the option to work from home 2 days per week. Fixed office days are Tuesday and Thursday’s.
  • Full - time job: The position of  Vessel Accountant is full time, 35 hours per week.
