The Software Engineering Team Lead is responsible for the software engineering team members located in Guadalajara, Jalisco, supporting the development of vehicle communication gateway and connectivity modules. A central part of the role is improving how software activities are planned, tracked, and executed, and strengthening how the team collaborates with counterparts in the United States.

The Team Leader is expected to establish solid engineering and project execution practices locally, and to drive alignment on ways of working across both locations. The role also carries a forward-looking scope: involvement in the technologies and architectures coming next in the industry, including Zone ECUs, remote edge nodes, and the broader shift toward software-defined vehicles.

This role reports to the Engineering Manager, is responsible for a team size of ~15 team members, and the work model is hybrid (3 days in office, 2 remote).

Key Responsibilities

  • Assess team competencies against the current and upcoming technologies, identify gaps, and build training and ramp-up plans to address them.
  • Improve how software development activities are planned, tracked, and executed: effort estimation, milestone and deliverable tracking, risk identification and escalation, and transparency of status.
  • Provide guidance to the team, evaluate the development framework, tool chains, and CI/CD practices, and propose improvements.
  • Strengthen collaboration with the software and project teams in the United States, creating clear interfaces, sharing best practices, and creating a common view of the project status.
  • Interface with other disciplines, including system engineering, V&V, quality, and project management, making sure the software engineering team is aligned with them.
  • Participate in regional initiatives and support new business acquisition activities (technical input for quotations and customer proposals).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in the automotive industry working on software development projects, in any role (development, test, systems, quality, or similar).
  • 5+ years of experience coordinating / managing projects in the automotive industry.
  • 2+ years leading a technical team, either as a direct manager or as a technical/team lead.
  • Working knowledge of automotive development processes and standards such as Automotive SPICE, V-model, MISRA.
  • Experience with configuration and change management tools (Git, JIRA, Synergy, or similar).
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
  • Experience working with globally distributed teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications:

  • Experience with embedded control modules, gateways, or body electronics, either as Software Developer or a different role.
