Job Description

This role is responsible for the direction, strategy, planning and execution of Supply Chain & Technical Services activities for BlueScope Coated Products (BCP) in line with the strategy established at the Corporate level in BlueScope. This position manages and oversees the S&OP processes, sourcing for both direct materials and services, including developing and establishing required organization, systems, processes and procedures. This position collaborates with Customers, Sales, Senior Manager Quality and BCP plant leaders to identify root cause of field complaints and warranty claims while ensuring timely, cost conscious and effective resolution. The position is also responsible for improving productivity and efficiency throughout areas of responsibility and reducing costs while securing high quality material for the business.

Key Focus Areas

  • Responsible for strategic and operational management of Supply Chain & Technical services, focused on sourcing, supplier contracts, customer warranty claims, cost reduction and risk mitigation.
  • Manage the timely resolution of warranty claims and support continuous improvements in manufacturing processes and systems to prevent further failures.
  • Drive the S&OP process throughout BCP.
  • Support the review and approval process of submitted bids/quotes for remediation on warranty claims.
  • Lead initiatives to drive least cost sourcing opportunities and oversee the management of key working capital operating metrics for Inventory (metal & paint).
  • Implement Vendor Score Cards for key commodities (metal & paint) with suppliers that includes but not limited to On time Performance, Purchase Price Variance, Quality and Sustainability.
  • Manages, develops and mentors direct reports in the Supply Chain & Technical Services team.

Objectives

  • Lead & manage material procurement (metal & paint) effort to attain or exceed fiscal year budget objective.
  • Assess & maintain the right level of raw material inventory for BCP to help manage working capital, while not impacting customer service levels.
  • Drive Technical Service efforts in the refinement of process/product standards, alignment of quality & technical support systems, field claims & warranty administration.
  • Responsible for direct customer-facing activities that include scheduled proactive technical visits in support of sales goals, supporting customer quality claim resolution, troubleshooting product quality and runability concerns for customers and providing technical liaison between customers and plants.
  • Work closely with the BCP Procurement Manager to develop KPI’s and dashboards for Supply Chain’s key commodities (metal & paint).
  • Facilitate the warranty claims process from beginning to end.  Track and report progress to senior leadership.
  • Ensure Suppliers are approved and are delivering product on time, right quality and competitive price
  • Support responsible sourcing for the BCP business. Work in conjunction with BCP Procurement Manager & Commodity Buyers to ensure key suppliers participate in assessments for tracking sustainability.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications & Experience: To be considered for this position, you must possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Engineering, Metallurgy, Supply Chain or related technical field
    • 15 or more years experience in sourcing, procurement and/or supply chain, QA in lieu of degree
  • 10 or more years experience of managing and developing a team
  • Experience operating and communicating at the senior and executive levels internally and externally and managing interdepartmental processes.
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of S&OP best practices and inventory management
  • Practical experience and strong understanding of production operations, supply chain management, and customer service/claims management.
  • Proven track record of investigating customer complaints and implementing solutions to enhance customer satisfaction.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, using a data-driven approach to decision making.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of quality control methodologies and customer care principles.
  • Knowledge and ability to apply continuous improvement techniques and methods.
  • Ability to perform quality system and manufacturing process audits.
  • Direct experience and a strong understanding of quality control theory, quality standards, practices, and systems.
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Outlook, Access, Word, and Excel.

Pay range: $167,000 to $180,000 annually
