Job Description
- Keep abreast of ferrous raw material markets with respect to price, market trends, and other issues that could affect the availability of raw material for the company.
- Maintains and manages supply-demand balances and inventory levels of key raw materials Acts as a liaison between BlueScope Recycling and Materials, NorthStar (production planning, operations), and external 3rd Party scrap and raw materials suppliers in managing the supply of raw materials
- Negotiate and procure 3rd Party Scrap to satisfy internal needs at a cost competitive price.
- Enter update purchase orders and blanket purchase orders in the system to ensure most current information is available and obtain required approvals on all blanket orders.
- Review raw material shipments on an ongoing basis to proactively maintain required inventory levels. Analyze inventory levels to optimize inventory turns and minimize internal transfer costs. Act as the subject matter expert regarding the inventory being ordered
- Handle and coordinate resolution of raw material purchasing and supplier.
- Provide Suppliers updated production forecast and raw material needs.
- Monitor orders and requirements to ensure on time delivery of raw materials and notify/update required parties as required. Work directly with suppliers to ensure releases are understood and confirmed to a level of mutual satisfaction.
- Use analytics to provide insight towards improving supplier lead times, order quantities, and inventory management that results in working capital savings and cost reduction
- Identify opportunities with suppliers to help reduce cost
- Continuously improves procurement processes with the objective of eliminating waste and minimizing manual system workarounds
- Develop commodity strategies and manage and support contracts with suppliers
- Ensure that purchasing files and computer system files are kept up to date by maintaining current supplier information.
- To be familiar with and ensure compliance with policies & ethics
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field
- 1+ years’ experience in a sourcing, procurement, supply chain, customer service, or materials management role
- Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Highly motivated and able to manage multiple activities, projects, and effectively communicate results
- Able to work independently and with a team
- Can operate in a fast paced, day to day operations work environment
- General supply chain, business acumen and decision-making capabilities
- A sense of curiosity, critical thinking, analytical skills, and problem solving
- Process-oriented
- Proficient skills with Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications:
- Steel mill experience
- Supply Chain Management and Procurement knowledge
- Transportation/Logistical knowledge
- Ability to understand financial statements
- Ferrous raw material experience
