Job Description
Summary: The Director of HSE is responsible for providing expert health and safety leadership across the BRM business with an overall focus on improving and sustaining the health and safety of BRM employees. In addition, this role provides Environmental leadership across the business and ensures environmental plans and goals are achieved. This position will influence behavior at all levels of the organization, challenging the status quo to drive continuous improvement to foster a positive culture that aligns with BlueScope’s Purpose and Bond.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide expert and technical advice to BRM leaders on all health, safety, and environmental functions and stewardship elements.
- Provide functional leadership to the HSE team to drive the development of the BRM health, safety, and environment strategies. Partner with business leaders and the HSE team to implement BRM's health, safety, and environment strategies and systems.
- Ensure compliance with legislative and BlueScope Corporate requirements, development, and implementation of HSE policies, procedures, performance standards, management systems, and guidelines ensuring compliance as required by legislation and BlueScope Corporate across all BRM business units and sites.
- Drive the continuous improvement of the health and safety culture across BRM, lead the development and implementation of leadership, behavioral, and engagement initiatives to deliver improved health and safety leadership, engagement, and behaviors and ultimately improved health and safety performance across the BRM business. This includes improved workers' compensation outcomes.
- Actively build on and improve the overall capability of the BRM HSE team, ensuring adequate resources with the required capability exist within the business to deliver on HSE plans and goals.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Safety or Environmental Science, or related field
- 10+ years of experience as HSE Professional
- 5+ years of leadership experience
- Demonstrated experience in building an effective HSE Program
- Demonstrated success in improving health and safety performance in a complex organization.
- Demonstrated success in improving health and safety culture including safety leadership, behaviors, and engagement.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in business or related field
- HSE Qualification, e.g. Professional Engineer, Certified Safety Professional

- Travel required to other facilities
- Position can be located in any of the three locations; however, Delta, OH is strongly preferred.
