Electrical Technician

  • Full-time

Job Description

BlueScope is an Australian-born global success story spanning 15 countries. Our team of over 16,500 people is our strength and we want our people to be safe, successful and well. We’re leaders and innovators in transforming steel into smart products and solutions that support society, today and in the future. We’re proud of brands, like COLORBOND ® steel that inspire and protect everything from hospitals to bridges and stadiums.

The Opportunity

Orrcon Steel Distribution is looking for an Electrical Technician to join the Maintenance & Reliability team based in Unanderra. Orrcon Steel Distribution is a leading Australian supplier of steel and aluminium products, offering a comprehensive range engineered to meet the demands of diverse industries. Our products are backed by strong technical expertise, full traceability, and stringent quality standards. Supported by strategic supplier partnerships and a nationwide network of distribution centres, we ensure consistent availability, reliable performance, and dependable supply for customers across Australia.

This is a fantastic time to come on board and be part of our team to help improve and maintain our new Pipe and Tube Mill based in the Illawarra. You'll be able to use your electrical skills and experience to support reliability and continuous improvements.  Working closely with the engineering and maintenance team, you will actively repair and maintain equipment - as well as coordinate preventative and corrective maintenance activities.

What Will You Do?

As part of this team and site, you will:

  • Ensure safety standards are never compromised, making suitable changes when risks and opportunities are identified.
  • Carry out hands‑on electrical and automation maintenance, fault‑finding, and repairs across plant and equipment.
  • Support BAU maintenance activities while also contributing to capital works and new equipment installations.
  • Coordinate with and oversee external contractors on site when specialist work or additional resources are required.
  • Collaborate daily with engineers and technicians to solve problems, refine systems, and implement improvements.
  • Develop, update, and follow technical documentation, procedures, and isolation plans to support safe and consistent work practices.
  • Identify improvement opportunities and actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives, helping shape how systems and processes are implemented and evolved.

More About You

As a maintenance professional within a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment you will bring:

  • Electrical Trade Qualification with a current NSW Electrical Licence and 4–5 years post‑trade experience in an industrial environment.
  • Hands‑on experience in heavy industry, including high‑voltage systems, automated machinery, and control systems.
  • Broad end‑to‑end electrical/automation experience.
  • Comfortable in a hands‑on, site‑based role, contributing directly rather than primarily managing contractors.
  • Strong team player in a small, collaborative environment, with involvement in improvements, documentation, and ways of working.
  • Positive attitude with a genuine desire to learn, develop, and build a long‑term career in industrial electrical and automation work.
  • Comfortable working at heights (such as crane maintenance) when required
