The Opportunity
Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Reliability Engineer in our Metal Coating Lines (MCL) team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.
This rare opportunity welcomes engineering disciplines coming from either Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical with a background in heavy industrial/manufacturing maintenance. Reporting directly to the MCL Asset manager, in this role you will operate within a multi-skilled team focusing on the delivery of sustained improvement in process uptime and unit cost reduction to our plant assets. To ensure operational productivity and asset improvement targets are achieved, you will bring an integrated and comprehensive approach to elimination of defects, identifying and leading improvement projects, coaching team members while minimising risk to the business.

What Will You Do?
Managing and developing the maintenance strategies for the assigned Metal Coating Line, you’ll drive continuous improvement and reliability of assets within the department. You will also:
- investigate, fault find, and problem solve long term/systemic equipment issues to eliminate potential causes to determine the root cause and develop subsequent corrective actions
- lead repairs & maintenance projects, down days, and short shutdowns; including multi trade discipline works for equipment improvement projects.
- provide engineering oversight for complex issues, upgrades, and investigations to inform investment decisions regarding asset condition and technical risks.
- coach and mentor maintenance personnel, promoting a Defect Elimination mindset provide mentoring and knowledge transfer to support technical growth within the maintenance team.
- develop and review strategies to ensure maintenance practices are effective and aligned to operational requirements.
- plan and monitor the R&M budget for your area, including forecasting, tracking and performance monitoring.
More About You
Using your technical knowledge of plant equipment and maintenance strategies gained through trade or engineering background. You’ll bring:
- a mechanical, mechatronic, or electrical engineering degree, or be a well-versed technical maintenance coordinator with a diploma of mechanical engineering
- a sound understanding of maintenance budgeting and cost control
- experience and expertise with industrial mechanical equipment such as hydraulics, rotating equipment, lubrication and condition monitoring will be highly regarded
- the ability to lead reliability and defect elimination initiatives using tools like RCM, RCA, Lean, and Kepner-Tregoe (KT).
- extensive experience in maintenance planning, execution, and reliability improvement, preferably within a heavy industry.
