The Opportunity

Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Engineer in our Hot Mills Engineering Team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, the role supports major projects within the Hot Mill Engineering department as well as day-to-day plant support, delivering mechanical design expertise and practical engineering solutions for equipment improvements, process modifications, and new installations.

What Will You Do?

As part of this innovative and diverse role, you will:

  • assist with mechanical engineering support as required to the day-to-day operations of the plant.
  • deliver project engineering and management skills to help accelerate the delivery of various multi-disciplinary projects in a cost-effective & timely manner.
  • provide technical direction and manage third party engineering consultants and drafting resources.
  • provide mechanical and some structural design engineering to help minimize business risks associated with the application of technology in manufacturing improvement projects.
  • assist with providing ongoing technical support and mentoring to the engineering team.
  • identify and deliver continuous improvement outcomes to support the production and supply of our products.

More About You

As a qualified Mechanical Engineer, you will possess sound technical and analytical knowledge, as well as:

  • degree qualifications in mechanical engineering.
  • experience providing a hands-on approach in project management through the full life cycle.
  • experience with mechanical engineering design and calculations.
  • experience in a technical engineering role encompassing management of customer interfaces, design, manufacture, installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • knowledge in utilising engineering design tools such as Autodesk Autocad and Inventor.
  • be able to perform, interpret and evaluate design modelling completed in FEA and other engineering analysis software packages.  
  • sound knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering principles.
  • critical thinking and experience in engineering governance control
