The Opportunity

Our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Team Leader in our HCPD Despatch Operations team based in Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

Our HCPD (Hot Coil, Processing and Despatch) Operations are responsible for managing approximately 2.8Mt of Hot Rolled Coil (HRC) produced at our Hot Strip Mill, here in Port Kembla.  

In this pivotal role, you will be the key point of contact for the shift operations in meeting the on-time delivery and quality needs of our customers and downstream processing businesses. You also enjoy keeping busy and working in a supportive team environment.  

You’ll manage the team’s success through their performance and productivity to ensure our business plan objectives and targets are continually met.

This role works on a 7-day x 12-hour day/night-shift roster.

What Will You Do?

You will demonstrate your leadership skills and be responsible for:

  • leading the shift operations team to achieve business targets and ensure operations are within standards
  • supervising and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, performance and mitigate risk - striving for on time delivery for our customers
  • supervising the operational activities and striving for business improvements and manufacturing excellence
  • growing and mentoring your team to develop and enhance their performance and capability

A self-motivated, quick thinker, you quickly adapt and can juggle more than one task at any given time across operational, production, supply chain and logistics priorities. You'll have:

  • a safety-first mind-set, championing the care and wellbeing of yourself and others
  • experience leading and developing a team
  • developed communication skills, with an ability to influence peers and colleagues to meet operational requirements, scheduling and people demands
  • relevant qualifications in engineering or science (or related disciplines)
