The Opportunity

Come and discover the opportunity to join our Capital Development & Engineering team at our Port Kembla Manufacturing facility as a Project Processing Computer Engineer. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

In this essential role, you’ll support the Lead Engineer in the transformation upgrading of the Hot Strip Mill Supervisory Computer System as part of the Hot Strip Mill Drives and Control System Upgrade. Ensuring the project is carried out efficiently, effectively, you’ll focus on the continuous improvement of the production, reliability and productivity of our operational technology systems, assets and equipment.

Support and live out the project safety culture as a key member of the project team ensuring that risk management and safe systems of work are delivered for all aspects of allocated work package scopes. What Will You Do?

Through active engagement with the operations and engineering teams, you’ll contribute to the project strategy, direction and goals. You will also:

  • work with the Lead Engineer to develop the upgrade scope and strategy including defining individual vendor’s scope boundaries and interfaces, as well as develop the migration and transition strategy
  • contribute to the design process by assisting with the development of technical specifications and scopes
  • lead and implement and improve the systems for control, information management, infrastructure and interfaces of the process computing systems
  • enable vendor implementation of the core system, interface design and implementation with ancillary systems, supporting shadow testing, cutover and initial support of the new system

More About You

Along with your problem solving, analytical technical skills within manufacturing operating technology system, you will bring:

  • a degree qualification in Engineering (Computer, Mathematics or Electrical), Computer Science or similar relevant tertiary Engineering/IT qualifications 
  • the ability to build constructive partnerships with internal peers and functions to achieve business outcomes
  • a technical acumen with the ability to translate technical information into value-add business outcomes
  • the ability to problem-solve and troubleshoot to identify root cause and develop resolutions effectively and efficiently with a hands-on approach 

Experience with Windows, Linux, programming (Java, C++, Fortran, Python) and computing hardware will be highly regarded.
