Job Description

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual to join the Product Prototyping and Evaluation Team based in Port Kembla.

As a Materials Evaluations Lab Technician, you will prepare and conduct accurate metallographic investigations and evaluations for product characterisation and for plant and customer support. This role will also see you operate and maintain instruments and infrastructure assets within the Metallography Lab.

You will be responsible for preparing and completing routine product assessments while delivering consistent, quality information and data that will enable optimisation of manufacturing processes. You will be required to maintain assets by identifying requirements, coordinating and conducting activities and developing cases for improvement opportunities. You will also interact with senior technical team members through your supporting activities.

Who are we looking for?

You will have a strong team focus, high level of attention to detail, work well with your hands, as well as have experience working in a process driven, laboratory environment. Ideally, you will have qualifications in metallurgy, or similar. In addition, you may have;

  • Experience in optical microscopy;
  • Experience with metal fabrication equipment and processes; and
  • Knowledge of steel, metallic-coated steel, and/or pre-painted products.
