Job Description
About This Role
At Biogen, we are pioneers in science and care deeply about making a difference. We work fearlessly. We do not give up when challenged, pursuing innovation in all that we do. Specialized Immunology (SI) is a new group in Research at Biogen, located within the Multiple Sclerosis and Immunology Research Unit. The current focus is on lupus, a therapeutic area in which Biogen has clinical programs, but we are currently exploring possibilities to broaden this scope. You will lead a group of 5-6 scientists initially that are responsible for identifying and prosecuting mechanisms associated with immunological disorders. You will also support the advancement and publication of our clinical programs in this area. The data you generate will serve as the foundation for future trials and so your focus will be on data integrity, experiments required to support development and efficient execution and presentation of results.
What You’ll Do
- Lead a world-class research team of scientists focused on novel aspects of immune cell dysfunction.
- Work collaboratively across R&D to create a preclinical pipeline of differentiated programs with strong biologic rationale and clinical feasibility, using the multiple modalities available to Biogen and ranging in stage from exploratory to pre-IND.
- Incorporate biomarker exploration at the earliest possible point of a pipeline project with the aim of understanding target engagement and patient heterogeneity.
- Strategically seek out - and partner with - our external innovation group and build on your collaborations with the academic community to identify opportunities that complement our internal efforts.
- Present and/or sponsor data presentations to internal governance and executive committee, as well as to external scientific congresses and journals
- As a member of the MS&I Research Unit leadership team, provide input and guidance on the MS&I RU portfolio so as to ensure operational & scientific excellence.
- Recruit, mentor, grow and identify talent across the research unit.
