About This Role

We are seeking a Research Fellow with antibody discovery and protein engineering experience to join our multi-platform discovery team. Our group uses industry-leading in vitro display technologies, B-cell sorting techniques, single-domain antibody generation, and hybridoma platforms to discover and optimize antibody candidates for therapeutic applications across Biogen’s disease and technology development areas. This opportunity would allow you to work closely with scientists using these various platforms, with an emphasis on in vitro antibody display technologies, including: library design, selection, high-throughput expression & sequencing, and antibody characterization.

What You’ll Do

• Antibody selections using yeast surface display and flow cytometry
• Analyze antibody sequences using Sanger and NGS methods
• Express and purify antibodies in high-throughput using automated liquid handling protocols
• Charaterize antibodies for binding affinity, specificity and developability
• Maintain interactive database of antibody sequence and characterization data to drive lead candidate selection
• Design libraries for antibody affinity and developability optimization
• Present findings to group and project team members
• Work alongside colleagues in biologics drug discovery, sctuctural biology, and machine learning
• Enjoy being part of a fast-paced and innovative team actively pursuing unmet medical needs in the neuroscience space

Who You Are

You are a goal-oriented and curioius antibody enthusiast, looking to help discover therapeutic antibody candidates with clear objectives and properties. You enjoy learning new techniques and using novel high-throughput discovery & screening methods to discover and optimize antibodies to best suit project needs and advance therapies to development.

Required Skills

• Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular or Structural Biology, Chemistry, Biological or Chemical Engineering, Immunology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related disciplines and ability to commit to an 18-month long industry research fellowship based in Cambridge, MA.
• In vitro display (phage, yeast, mammalian) or in vivo immunization (hybridoma, B-cell sorting) antibody discovery or protein/enzyme engineering experience, with 0-5 years experience in an academic or biopharmaceutical setting highly preferred
• Experience or familiarity with FACS and/or analytical flow cytometry
• Antibody (or other protein) sequence analysis using Sanger or NGS methods
• Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
• Be responsible, organized, and possess strong attention to detail
• Effective communication, interpersonal and wet-lab skills
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S.

Preferred Skills

• Other methods of protein characterization in a subset of areas including: SDS-PAGE, HPLC (SEC, CIC, HIC), AC-SINS, DLS, DSC, DSF, affinity assessment (Octet, Carterra, Biacore) is desired
• Protein expression and purification experience
• Experience in applying machine learning of data set
