About This Role

The Biosimilars Field Medical Director/ US MSL Lead is responsible for creating, leading, and inspiring a national MSL team, focused on enhancing patient outcomes through improved customer engagement.

You will play a crucial role in facilitating strong MSL relationships across the healthcare landscape with external scientific, medical, and patient communities in their region, and are expected to build relationships with key customers through expert peer-to-peer engagements. By maintaining a high-level understanding of customer needs across the biosimilar therapeutic area at a regional level, you are expected to understand and evaluate the organization’s opportunities and constraints to advance the care continuum and the delivery of healthcare through broad clinical and build capabilities with an enterprise mindset. You will be accountable for coaching, mentoring, and leading their TA MSL team to deliver a valued scientific customer experience.

What You’ll Do

  • Be accountable for the US Biosimilars (BBU) MSL team management
  • Co-create the regional strategy, objectives, and priorities with the field based MSL team and business partners in alignment with business needs, in response to the changing healthcare landscape and customer needs, in order to increase customer satisfaction, improve outcomes and lower overall healthcare cost
  • Develop strong relationships with regional KMEs (key medical experts) in your therapeutic area and be accountable to the relationship building within US BBU ophthalmology franchise
  • Inspire, lead, and provide strategic professional development, mentorship and coaching, empowering your team to deliver all aspects related to scientific exchange
  • Maintain effective and regular two-way communication with direct reports, medical team partners, regional field partners, ecosystem teams to create a continuous feedback loop of information and insights related to the regional medical strategy
  • Work closely with US BBU leadership and direct US BBU medical affairs leadership to align regional medical strategies and priorities and ensure pull through across regions
  • Identify resources and tools needed to empower BBU MSLs to deliver all aspects related to scientific exchange on clinical and HEOR data across the entire healthcare landscape
  • Build, cultivate, and leverage relationships with key customers to deliver on their needs and ensure strong understanding of evolving healthcare trends; stay updated on relevant therapeutic area and business topics to drive innovation and cross-pollination within team and across the organization

You have a passion for science and deep scientific knowledge, are an effective communicator and strive on being inquisitive. You have managed high performing national teams of MSLs in the past and perform well in a matrix organized environment.

Qualifications

Required Skills and Education

  • Advanced Scientific or Clinical degree is required (PhD or PharmD)
  • Minimum 10 years of previous experience within a medical affairs role in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Ideally, a minimum of 5 years’ line management experience, similar experience desired 
  • Demonstrate an ability to build, lead and develop a team of highly performing and motivated individuals
  • Demonstrate a deep passion for medicine, science and clinical development; Is a subject matter expert in one of more therapeutic areas
  • Excellent understanding of the healthcare and a curiosity for business opportunities
  • Digital potential: comfort when using and experimenting with technology
  • Customer-minded: Keep patients, payers and physicians front and center in their daily work and collaborate to solve critical scientific and business challenges
  • Able to travel at least 60-70% of the time, including ability to travel overnight and occasionally during weekends

Preferred Skills

  • Experience in ophthalmology and/or with biosimilar products is preferred 
  • Has a solid base knowledge of the biosimilarity concept and/or retinal vascular diseases

 

Additional Information

The Biosimilars Field Medical Director / US MSL Lead is responsible for creating, leading, and inspiring a national MSL team, focused on enhancing patient outcomes through improved customer engagement. They will work with the US Biosimilars Medical Head to support the creation of the long-term vision and strategic / tactical plan for a field based MSL team.

This is a national role. Candidate MUST reside within the United States.
