In line with the worldwide medical strategy, the Associate Director ECP Field Medical Strategy & Execution will drive the Field Medical strategy development and execution for the region for Alzheimer’s Disease & Dementia. This is a critical role aligned with Biogen’s mission to be the leader in neuroscience and as one of the largest functions within ECP Medical, Field Medical employees are our main direct scientific interface with healthcare professionals across the region and, as such, this is a highly visible and critical role.

This individual will collaborate with the Global & Regional Cross-Functional Teams, SEE and Medical Functions, to set the strategic direction for Alzheimer’s Disease ECP Field Medical teams. He or she will be a hands-on, self-starter with entrepreneurial and cross-functional mindset, strong emotional intelligence who brings digital enthusiasm. He or she will be accountable for collaborating with a diverse range of stakeholders, on an affiliate and global level, to deliver appropriate execution of the field medical strategy.

Reporting to the Director, ECP Field Medical Strategy & Execution, the successful candidate will lead a pan-ECP group of MSL Managers via a complex matrix organization, and will collaborate with ECP Affiliate Alzheimer’s Disease Medical Leads, Country Medical Leads & global medical teams to determine strategic priorities and deliver appropriate execution of the field medical strategy on a country by country basis.

Accountability Descriptions:

1.Drive Field Medical Strategy & Execution Excellence:

• Develop strong working relationships with Alzheimer’s Disease Field Medical/ Leads and internal medical teams to ensure that deliverables align with strategy, and establish and promote the medical and scientific reputation of Biogen throughout ECP:
• Lead, develop & successfully deploy Field Medical initiatives across ECP
• Ensure robust field-medical pre-launch activity plans are created and executed (e.g. KME mapping, disease education, establishing Biogen’s reputation in the Alzheimer’s Disease community, partnering with PAGs & Payors; support mapping of healthcare systems and patient flow, supporting/ leading advisory boards)
• Support development of GCP training curriculum for MSLs and drive strong alignment/ collaboration between field medical, CCLs and GCO.
• Develop and maintain a regional forum for Field Medical/ Manager best practice sharing across affiliates
• Serve as ECP Field Medical strategy & execution point of contact for senior leadership for Alzheimer’s Disease
• Identify measurable goals and KPIs to ensure execution of the regional field medical affairs plan and demonstrate value.

2. Lead in a matrix/without authority to ensure optimization and high utility of field facing content and resources, tools, systems, insights optimization, value and metrics reporting, and any other activities requiring field execution

3. Identify current and future unmet field medical needs, addressing those needs to ECP Regional Medical, and generating short-, mid-, and long-term plans, across systems, tools, resources and training programs

4. Partner on key cross functional initiatives with the ECP Medical Regional Leadership Team & cross-functional teams, including ICP Planning, Competitor Readiness, Field Excellence and Congress optimisation

5. Support design and implementation of training programs for Field Medical in Alzheimer’s Disease, across FMT, AMT and Field Summits, by engaging internal and external partners to ensure agenda meets training and scientific /medical needs

6. Partner with the Director, ECP Field Medical Strategy and Execution to assess current field medical talent and identify growth and development opportunities, fostering a culture of high performance and urgency, ensuring that Biogen’s Field Medical leaders of the future are mentored for succession and retained.

• 8+ years’ experience within Medical with significant Field Medical expertise
• Field Medical Pre-launch/license experience including close collaboration with clinical development/ R&D
• Proven success in developing, leading, and retaining high-performing, diverse field-based teams, driving paradigm shifts and a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, within a large, highly matrixed, complex, top-tier business organization
• Business savvy and executive presence/confidence coupled with outstanding communication, negotiation, and cross-functional relationship-building skills needed to engage effectively and credibly with both external and internal stakeholders—including scientifically oriented and data-driven executive management
• Life Sciences, Pharmacy or Medical Faculty by education.
