Job Description

The Maintenance Technician for the Baggage Handling System (BHS) is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing both the mechanical and electrical components of the baggage handling infrastructure. This role involves ensuring the seamless operation of conveyor systems, motors, electrical controls, sensors, and other critical BHS components. The Technician must be capable of diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults, carrying out corrective and preventive maintenance, and ensuring the system operates reliably and efficiently to support airport operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Preventive Maintenance (PM):
    • Perform scheduled maintenance on BHS mechanical and electrical systems, including conveyors, motors, control panels, sensors, and actuators, ensuring that all components are functioning correctly.
    • Inspect and maintain key components such as motors, bearings, rollers, pneumatic cylinders, electrical wiring, and power supplies.
    • Document and report all maintenance actions, including parts used, work completed, and any ongoing issues.
  2. Troubleshooting and Repairs:
    • Identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical and electrical faults quickly to minimize system downtime.
    • Troubleshoot issues with motors, sensors, electrical circuits, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), and other automated systems that impact baggage flow.
    • Perform repairs on mechanical and electrical systems, including replacing parts, recalibrating equipment, and ensuring that the BHS meets operational requirements.
  3. System Upgrades and Installation:
    • Assist with the installation and commissioning of new BHS components or systems, both mechanical and electrical, ensuring integration with the existing infrastructure.
    • Help implement upgrades and modifications to improve system efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  4. Testing and Calibration:
    • Conduct routine and on-demand testing of mechanical systems (conveyors, motors, pulleys) and electrical systems (control panels, wiring, PLCs, sensors).
    • Perform calibration on control systems, adjusting parameters to meet operational requirements.
  5. Safety Compliance:
    • Follow all safety protocols and best practices to ensure a safe working environment.
    • Adhere to local regulations and international standards for BHS systems, ensuring all work complies with Aruba’s health and safety laws.
    • Participate in safety audits, training, and other activities that promote workplace safety.
  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including maintenance schedules, repairs, spare parts usage, and system performance.
    • Provide daily, weekly, or monthly reports to the BHS Maintenance Manager and other relevant personnel on system status, maintenance activities, and operational issues.
    • Assist with developing and maintaining an inventory of critical parts and components for the BHS.
  7. Collaboration and Communication:
    • Collaborate with other technicians, operations teams, and airport staff to ensure smooth coordination of maintenance activities.
    • Report potential issues and provide recommendations to improve system reliability and performance.
    • Work closely with external vendors or service providers as necessary for the supply of parts, systems, and equipment.
  8. Customer and Vendor Interaction:
    • Work closely with contractors, suppliers, and other third-party service providers during maintenance, installation, and repair activities.
    • Support the implementation of warranty repairs or product recalls for BHS equipment.
