Job Description

The Senior Quantity Surveyor plays a critical role in managing and overseeing the cost aspects of the assigned construction projects. This position requires a seasoned professional with extensive experience in quantity surveying, a thorough understanding of construction methodologies, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams. This role is a Subject Matter Expert level position.

  • Cost Management:
    • Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, ensuring accurate cost estimation and allocation for various project elements.
    • Conduct thorough cost analysis to identify potential savings, cost overruns, and provide recommendations for cost-effective solutions.
  • Quantity Surveying:
    • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and measurements for materials, labor, and equipment required for construction projects.
    • Regularly update and maintain accurate records of quantities, variations, and cost implications throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Contract Administration:
    • Administer and manage construction subcontracts, ensuring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
    • Collaborate with legal and procurement teams to negotiate favourable terms and conditions in subcontracts with suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Cost Reporting:
    • Generate and present regular cost reports to project stakeholders, highlighting budget variances and potential risks.
    • Provide insights into financial trends, cost forecasts, and budgetary implications.
  • Collaboration:
    • Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination.
    • Participate in project meetings, providing expert advice on cost-related matters.
  • Risk Management:
    • Identify potential risks related to costs and propose mitigation strategies to ensure the financial success of projects.
    • Collaborate with project teams to implement risk management plans and monitor risk factors throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Quality Assurance:
    • Ensure that all quantity surveying activities adhere to industry standards, company policies, and relevant regulations.
    • Implement and maintain quality assurance processes for cost-related activities within the Technical Department.
  • Continuous Improvement:
    • Stay updated on industry trends, construction technologies, and cost management best practices.
    • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness in quantity surveying processes.
  • Leadership
    • Manage and lead a package or multiple packages of work of up to $300M.
    • Oversee and mentor QS, Junior QS and graduate staff.
    • Be responsible for the outputs of the team associated with the package or packages of work assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • RICS or CIOB membership
  • Minimum experience of 10 years in quantity surveying within the construction industry, preferably with a Main Contractor. Middle East experience is highly preferred.
