Job Description
The Mechanical Project Technician has the primary responsibility for hands-on mechanical adjustments, machine alignment, mechanical installations, maintenance and repair of production equipment. This position supports all Avery Dennison coating and finishing facilities and distribution center (DC) networks. The role is a contributing member of the MG-NA Process Technology divisional team.
The primary responsibilities and essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to:
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and perform precise mechanical adjustments and repairs to continuously improve equipment operation and reduce downtime.
Support designs, evaluations and modification of mechanical devices or systems to continuously improve equipment operation.
Support new machines and in-house mechanical design installations.
Perform precise adjustments to rollers and machine frames with the use of hand tools, rigging equipment and dial indicators to achieve acceptable alignment tolerances.
Improve coater and slitter reliability and support process improvement projects.
Execute assigned maintenance and repair projects/tasks, maintaining timelines and effectively communicating status updates.
Provide technical input and field knowledge to engineering for the development of technical specifications and design improvements necessary for existing processes.
Act as a technical point of contact, interacting with internal personnel (manager, engineering teams, maintenance teams, operations) and external vendors for projects and parts support.
Follows Avery Dennison standard LOTO procedures, hot work permits and confined space training when needed per each facility requirements.
Qualifications
Requirements:
Associate of Science degree in Mechanical Technology, related technical certification, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
Minimum 10 years experience in industrial manufacturing environments.
Ability to travel up to 60% of time domestically which will be dictated by business needs and will vary from month to month.
Ability to become proficient in Faro VantageS Laser Tracker metrology equipment, Polyworks software, emerging 3D scanning technology and follow standard work operating procedures.
Strong background in industrial mechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
Experience in supporting or managing maintenance tasks/projects of varying scope and complexity.
Strong ability to troubleshoot mechanical and process issues.
Experience with mechanical systems.
Coating and slitting process knowledge.
Ability to use AutoCAD. Develop and update mechanical drawings, including P&IDs and PFDs.
Ability to interpret complex technical manuals and troubleshoot unexpected variables in the field.
Knowledge in mechanical drafting documentation principles.
Knowledge of machining practices and ability to use magnetic drills, mills, lathes and other machine shop equipment.
Ability to use welding equipment along with oxygen acetylene torch and plasma cutters.
Good technical writing skills.
Proficient in Google workspace software including Docs, Sheets & Slides for creating reports, performing calculations and filing documentation.
Self-motivated, with a strong focus on innovation and a commitment to continuous improvement.
Possesses good communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
Ability to interface effectively with cross-functional teams to support and execute process improvements and projects.
Working knowledge and experience with Six Sigma and ELS principles preferred.
Knowledge and ability to move machine equipment and rigging using safe best practice techniques.
Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs.
OSHA certified preferred
