Job Description
We are looking for an Sr. Environmental Health and Safety Specialist for our Corporate Headquarters and Research & Development (R&D) facilities in North America.
As the Sr. EHS Specialist, you will serve as a key member of the EHS team for the Materials Group North America business. Your key responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
Act as the primary EHS resource for the needs of the corporate headquarters(onsite), and three additional facilities based in Painesville, OH and Azusa, CA (remotely).
Implement programs and develop facility-specific procedures that ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulatory and company requirements.
Integrate company and facility level EHS management systems to maintain compliance, environmental protection, and safe operating conditions.
Track and regularly report the status of regulatory compliance and improvement initiatives.
Maintain OSHA 300 log, form 101, and all other governmental and corporate database records.
Organize and control an effective accident prevention program.
Implement education and training to support regulatory and business requirements.
Facilitate the management of change (MOC) program and ensure timely completion of approvals and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews.
Act as a resource and mentor to facility safety teams.
Lead as the emergency response coordinator for the corporate headquarters.
Investigate all spills, releases, injuries, fires and near-misses and documentation in our reporting system.
Coordinate and maintain the Job Safety Analysis program, maintaining chemical approvals, and evaluating new R&D procedures for EHS considerations.
Conduct periodic inspections of plant machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure conformance to appropriate safety and sanitary standards and regulations.
Drive continuous improvement and deliver strong results from behavioral-based processes.
Generate new ideas or creative solutions to be shared with leadership for the continued growth of the EHS department.
Partnering with multiple corporate functions in a collaborative manner.

Qualifications
Associates degree required, Bachelor's degree or higher preferred. Strong preference for EHS related major.
5+ years experience in an environmental, health, and safety focused role.
Demonstrated experience of complex work assignment or educational project driving results on EHS work assignments with progressive complexity, depth and scope.
Advanced professional EHS certification (CSP, CIH, CHMM, QEP, CEA, REM etc.)preferred but not required.
Experience in a research and development laboratory environment preferred.
Good knowledge of regulatory requirements and EHS policies, procedures and programs.
Good Project/Problem Resolution skills.
Understanding of applicable computer systems, such as Microsoft Office, Google Docs/Sheets, and function specific software.
Think strategically and have strong leadership skills with good interpersonal communications.
Strong mentoring, facilitating and training skills with the flexibility to support a 24 hour operation.
Must be able to work on site in Mentor, OH Monday through Friday, and be available to come on-site on the weekend in an emergency (or find necessary coverage)
May require up to 5% travel
Additional Information
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $110,000 / year.
The hiring base salary range above represents what Avery Dennison reasonably expects to pay for this position as of the date of this posting. Actual salaries will vary within the range, and in some circumstances may be above or below the range, based on various factors including but not limited to a candidate’s relevant skills, experience, education and training, and location, as well as the job scope and complexity, responsibilities, and regular and/or necessary travel required for the position, which may change depending on the candidate pool.
