Job Description

The Fastener Solutions business unit of Avery Dennison is a worldwide manufacturer of plastic fastening systems used in the automotive, apparel, retail, industrial and packaging industries. Our three-shift injection molding and extrusion operation is located in Fitchburg, MA. The Fastener Solutions business unit is ISO 9001 and IATF 16949 certified.

The HR Generalist provides guidance and consultative support to business and operational leaders and promotes positive employee relations including; delivering training; maintaining compliance; interpreting policies and procedures; proactive coaching and counseling of managers and employees; conducting investigations; and coaching for performance improvement. In addition, the HR Generalist will act as a change leader for developing and implementing new HR initiatives that support the needs of the business.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provides human resource guidance, support and coaching to the plant leadership team
  • Proactively engages with and builds relationships with employees at all levels. Mediates employee concerns and/or complaints.
  • Partners with hiring managers and the Talent Acquisition Team to ensure successful selection and onboarding of talent
  • Responsible for recruitment of hourly operations workforce. Work closely with managers to identify talent, coordinate the interview process for candidates.
  • Facilitates annual performance and merit review process.
  • Coaches managers on writing and conducting effective performance reviews.
  • Facilitates Talent Review and Succession Planning Process with site leadership team
  • Facilitates training on employee development, coaching and other management and leadership topics
  • Handles Fitchburg manufacturing site employee relations related inquiries, and conducts detailed and timely investigations of employee concerns, regarding policies, procedures, and various human resource issues, documents findings, and makes sound recommendations to all levels of management
  • Partners with HR and leaders to provide front line support and provide a lead role on employee relations issues, including but not limited to: investigations, corrective actions, conflict resolution, employee complaints, and monitoring compliance programs
  • Provides ongoing support and direction to employees and leaders on HR practices, policies, and employment regulatory requirements
  • Partner with legal resources as needed to ensure employee relations activities adhere to company policy and legal and regulatory requirements
  • Compiles and presents data, trends, and findings, for internal review purposes, providing thoughtful recommendations and solutions.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with human resource compliance including the support of policy/handbook updates, maintaining employee files and documents, reporting, auditing accuracy of personnel data, administering progression increases, etc.
  • Coordinate employee recognition activities and events.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field required.
  • Previous employee relations experience preferred
  • 3-5 years experience as an HR Generalist preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • PHR or SPHR certification is a plus.

  • High level of work capacity and ability to work at a high pace. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and clients simultaneously
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills
  • Knowledgeable on employment laws, HR procedures and practices.
  • Strong project leadership skills including organization skills and time management
  • Ability and passion to build relationships and work with employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Strength in active listening skills, understanding business concerns and taking action to solve problems.
